No more envy 14?

Just what the title says, yesterday apparently HP had problems and lots of computers including the envy 15 were really cheap and today neither the envy 14 nor the envy 14 beats edition is available. Just another mistake? Below is the link to the envy page...

Certainly looks that way to me...it's been around for a long time and a new line has come out; I wouldn't be surprised if it's been superseded.

 

Doesn't make sense to have envy14 in production anymore. Envy 15 weights like 0.1lb more than envy14 and I believe envy14 is 0.1 inch higher too. 14.5'' to 15.6'' doesn't take that much more room too.

 

Isn't the Spectre edition continue/replace(not sure how to describe it) the line?

 

How cheap are we talking about here?

 

The price had been accidentally marked beginning at around $750 for the envy 15 (after the student discount). You could get the i7-2670qm, 8GB RAM, 750 GB hybrid HDD, full HD screen and 2 year accidental damage for about $1,250. This was however a mistake on HP's part but I heard that some people were actually able to get it for that price, in fact anybody should have been able to get it if they called HP because the law states that items must be sold at the price advertised even if it is a mistake. Most businesses, when they make a mistake, honor this law without much bickering, I have in fact used it twice in the past.

 

Not really. The original Envy 14 replaced the original Envy 15, and now the current Envy 15 has replaced the Envy 14. The Envy 14 Spectre is a sort of maxi-ultrabook - way smaller than the original Envy 14 was and targeting a different audience.

 

Confirmed, I spoke to a contact I have at HP and the Envy 14 and 14 Beats are "EOL" (End of Life) as of 2/19. RIP the Envy 14, X/X/2011 - 2/19/2012.

 

The Envy 14 got a raw deal. The loss of a supplier for the Radiance screen was a death blow on its own, but HP's reluctance to utilize the Envy 14's excellent cooling by putting a halfway decent GPU in it was a significant second place.

Oh well, at least the current Envy 15 isn't much larger than the Envy 14 was, and once AMD gets its act together, it should offer a 77XX GPU to boot.

 

Wow, the Envy 14 was the first really nice laptop from HP IMO. The Specter thing is just stupid and not worth it's money.

I just wish they had returned with a 1600x900 display, upped the GPU and removed the optical drive for a bigger battery and another cooling fan.

 

The envy 14 and the spectre are different beasts aimed at different audiences. The spectre is supposed to be an ultraportable, it's trying to push the limits of how thin and light we can make a laptop while keeping it powerful. Due to these characteristics which require careful engineering the price is higher, whether it's worth it or not depends on whether you think you would benefit from these advantages, you obviously don't need it; However, calling it stupid just because it does not fit your requirements or needs is truly stupid, is an artificial heart stupid because you don't need one? Not a perfect comparison but you get my point... Calling it stupid because of how it looks is a different matter, whether something looks good or not is entirely subjective but I do not think you meant that it looks stupid, if you did then disregard the last sentence or two(ps: I'm just pointing this out, I don't mean it to be offensive, if you find it offensive then I apologize)

In the end the general consensus is that the envy 14 was great (I did not have one so I cannot comment on it) the spectre is also a great computer but it is not really aimed at the same audience that the envy 14 was, due to this some may consider it a great computer some may think it's useless. A matter of opinion and needs./endrant
