I have a 4 yr old ze4300 P4 1.8 that has served me well until my grandson dropped it on the PCMCIA card (wireless card inserted). the display was still present but frozen. I powered it down, but it refused to boot. the lights flash and the fan starts, but stops and the same sequence repeats until I pull the power cord. I have removed the 50 or so screws required to remove the top cover, cleaned up all the debris from the card slot, but it still goes through the same sequence when powered up. I suspect that the motherboard was damaged by the drop, but the HP service manual does not address the symptoms I have. Can anyone help or must I assume motherboard damage?

Could try re-seating the memory and hard drive. Pull the battery and AC out, and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
