I recently bought hp dv6045nr, two days ago it started acting weirdly, while booting, the screen is blank (No hp logo whatsoever) and it beeps three times (One long [1 second] then two relatively short). The system still loades up normally without display!!!.

I remembered what I did, I installed Nvidia video driver, I dont remember the exact version but I got it from Nvidia website.

I somehow managed to start it normally by (Turning it on and off ) many times, so I thought it was a hibernation problem so I disabled it and uninstalld nvidia driver, but when it restarted, the screen is black again.

I tried to do what I did (Turning it on and off ) but unfortunately I cut my only way back by disabling hibernation!!!

    notes:
The laptop refuses to enter bios (when pressing F10).

It is HP DV6045NR, AMD Turion ™ 64 X2 mobile tech. TL-56; 1.81 Ghz, 2.00 GB of RAM.
    with NVIDIA Geforce Go 7200.

    Please Help :( :(

    Hi,
try this: Take the Battery out & reinstall, then power on. If that works go to HP website and update the BIOS.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply
I took the battery out and reinstall it, same problem!
I downloaded the BIOS update from HP using my PC but the real challenge is how to install it when you can't see a thing!??

If you have a monitor, then try connecting it to the notebook, and force it to transmit the video signal to it, using the Fn key command. If the external display does work, then there is something wrong with the LCD display in the notebook.

    Hi 0 :) ,
I connected it to my PC monitor and transmitted the signal to it, the "No siganl" message on the PC monitor disappears and it stays blank!!

So I don't think that it is LCD display problem.

    Any Ideas?

That means that it is something internal, and most likely to do with the graphics card, seeing as though both the external and normal LCD doesn't seem to work. If your under warranty, the I would suggest letting HP take care of the repair.

    Thank you Zero,
I contacted HP and they told me exactly what you said.
I am thinking it is a virus problem as I experienced system unstability just before the problem started! I read an article at Microsoft's site about Master Boot Record:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/69013/EN
    and
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/166454/EN

and they said "If a drive is infected with a Stealth virus, the partition table and pointers have been offset. The offset pointer is contained in the MBR. Using the FDISK /MBR command on the computer refreshes the MBR--the pointer to the partition table is lost, as is the ability to boot. The only possible solution is to reinfect the drive and then try to remove the virus again using Fdisk or anti-virus software."

    Examples of Stealth viruses include:
    • NY Bomber or NYB
    • Stealth.B
    • Hare
    • Monkey.B

So dose any one know whether it is related to my problem? Since the symptoms are almost the same.

    Respect! :)

I am still waiting for an answer!
I avoided sending my laptop in a package back to US because I may never see it again  since I am working in a company in one of the third world country, and you know what I mean!!

What I noticed is that my laptop can be turned on normally following these long steps (It is not a coincidence I tried it many times)

    1-Turn on the laptop.
2-It stays 5 seconds and restarts by itself
3-The screaming three beeps is heard.
4-Leave the computer as it is for 5 minutes!! In the meantime the fans will go crazy and operate without stopping.
    5-Force shutdown.
6-Turn on, and there it is! Working as good as new
7-If you restart, well take 10 minutes to go through steps 1-6.

But I hate this routine, It's like I am warming a car.

Now have you any Ideas guys??

    ;)

Note: you must leave it for 5 minutes or more, if less the display will never be turned on.

Try doing the things listed o the Microsoft page and see if that makes any difference. Also, try a BIOS update, as that may help. Be careful, and read and unserstand the intructions on flashing before you do the flash. If the flash doesn't happen correctly, then it coul,d render the notebook useless.

    Hi jack-mallory,

Unfortunately I have the exact problem as yours, same notebook too. The notebook is still in warranty, but I live in East Europe and the transportation fee to USA is unreasonable high. So I am looking for some other way to fix the issue.

I removed every single hardware device from the system, tried to connect external display, plugged new memory module, new HDD .... but without any success.
Unfortunately I can not start it more even after many repeated resets.
Some times it halt without beeps, sometimes it beeps 1+2 but the screen is always blank.

I am looking for cooperation with you for sharing information and experience.

I had the same problem. The graphic chip on the mother board is out, you need to replace the mother board. If your laptop is still under warranty (hopefully it is), contact hp and they will send you a shipping box to ship it to them and they will replace it for free. The entire process will take about 8 business days (might be shorter). Remove the hard drive and keep it at home if you don't want them "accidentally" reformat it. If your laptop is no longer under warranty, well, you are **** out of luck. Gather all the useful hardware, e.g. hard drive, memory, and battery, and buy yourself a new laptop with Vista. It's not worth it to replace the mother board, consider your laptop "totaled".

    hi,
Thank you zero, I flashed the BIOS with the lastest versions (F28) from HP support website but it did nothing. I tried to perform a nondistructive restore but it perpetuate the problem and I was never been able to enter windows, but now (After several heartbreaking resets) I managed to turn it on.

Mr.Capt_Flint, I understand how difficult is the boot defects, and I will summarize what I tried to do and failed:

    I:
    - Disabled hibernation and installed new drivers
    - Reseated HD and RAM
    - Performed a nondistructive restore using HP recovery counsel
    - Performed a distructive restore and uploded the lastes drivers from the net
    - Tried to throw my laptop from the balcony.
    I changed my mined :D

My advice is: when resetting try to let the laptop work for 10 minuts until you hear the fans and feel the warmth coming out of the rear. And then press and hold the power button, It might start your laptop temporarly until next reboot.

Well, part of your reply is correct but sending the laptop from here to US may cost almost as much as buying new one.

NOTE: A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE IS FREE FALL!!!

If your laptop falls several times, then the most sensible part to be affacted is the graphic card.

I have this notebook. I had it for 3 months when I had the same problem. HP tech support is worthless. I spent hours on the phone with them at like 2 am. The beeps that you hear is a code that tells them what is wrong. Unfortunately, most tech support is located in India so They have no idea what is going on because they can't understand you and when they are trying to tell you that the problem is your back light has burned out... all in all... they are idiots. The code is telling you that they is a graphics problem. Luckily I have the 3 year drop and spill warranty with Best Buy. Awesome. I had my computer back in 4 days. I figured that I would just try and fix it myself first before I knew I would have to send it out. There are many different beep code that you can find online to try and figure out what the problem is.
