I Like both the 14" HP model, and the 14" Dell. My key consideration is quite and silent. I have heard in a review on here that the 14" & 15" HP run quite noisly, but i won't be opting for the dedicated GPU, so i'm hoping that helps.

My 15.4" DV6000Z (integrated graphics) runs hot and the fan generally remains on low all the time. Compared to other laptops I've owned / used, I would consider it slightly noisier, very hotter. :)

I'm pretty sure the Z and T series have similar cooling systems.

    I have a HP NC6220 notebook.

Normally the fan is always on. In my opinion HP set the trip points to low. The notebook tries to cool the cpu down to 30°C until the fan will stop. Of course this is nearly impossible. I have to admit the fan noise is not too loud.

But as you, I like my PCs silent. So what I did is setting the trip points manually higher. The fan will be off until the cou reaches 55°C. So if that is an option for you, you can get the notebook dead silent.

Have also a look at the bios updates of HP. For some notebooks they changed the trip points.

What have you found out about the noise issue in the headphone jack in the Dell's? Is that an issue for you? Something to consider as I am thinking about both the Dell and HP. Not exactly what you mean, but a noise issue nonetheles..

I bought the HP DV2550 Verve edition about a month ago and absolutely LOVE it! It's so quiet and runs so cool it's unbelievable.

My top priority was getting a cool and quiet notebook. After reading these forums I realized I should get one with the newest Intel processor and the 3100 integrated graphics card. In keeping to my goal, I got the slowest of the new processors, the Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5450, which is no slouch. I read a review here of the same notebook with a faster processor and they mentioned it ran warm/hot.

I have NOT been disappointed. If your goal is cool and quiet, seriously consider this configuration.

Just looking at the HP Australia site. The only 25** model is the "dv2533TX" and it appears to have an integrated GPU.

The "dv6404TU" model has a integrated GPU and a 15" screen (which i would prefer), but seems to have the older non santa rosa processors as it comes with a "
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950" hmmm
