    Hello!

I just found this site and decided to place a question here.

I recently bought a HP Pavillion DV5037EA (I'm from Finland if you're not familliar with the model) laptop and and now I'm having a problem with its noisy operation when wrorking on AC power.

The noise itself reminds me of a mosquito flying inside the laptop. I mean it's high pitched and usually the frequency gets higher gradually after about 1 hour of use. It also appears when I turn the screen birghter. What is most unbelievable is that it disappears when I crab the laptop and twist is to the left and vice versa. This latter phenomenon makes me think if the problem is mechanical. Don't know...The guys at the service told me the problem would be tracked to the hard drive but I dont know. Somehow I feel it has something to do with the screen.

Otherwise the laptop operates flawlessly but the noise I'm talking about is very annoying when working in silent environment. Has anyone of you experienced anything like this before?

    cheers,

    Jouni

    See here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=40211
    No real solution though.
    or here; http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=16307&highlight

Try identifying where the sound comes from. Also try changing the wall-plug and/or turn off devices in close proximity to the laptop as they may create electric fields (I've experienced it a lot with airconditioners at work).
Here's another link, which actually offers a solution: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=37515&highlight=high+pitched+sound

So, is it the power jack that is making the noise?

P.S. I left the highlighted words for you to make it easier to find the right passages.

    Hello again!

Thank you for the links Vassil 98. That helped me alot!

I quess I have to return it because I don't want to wait until it gets (even) worse. It's just a shame that everyone seems to have this problem. Obviously returning won't help much.

However, in my case, another thing to point out is that I can get that noise disappear also by pressing at the bottom of the screen. This makes me think the problem has something to do with the screen. On the other hand, the service staff actually told me that there are some "stabilators" (like ball bearings) in the hard drive that may cause the noise. When I lift the notebook at my eye level, the noise really seems to come from inside. So it's 50/50 to both possibilities.
