Admittedly, I am more than a bit persnickety when it comes to a keyboard. I do a lot of research and writing, so the keyboard is my constant companion.
I have a week-old dv6275us. I like everything about it, but I am a bit annoyed about the keyboard. Compared to my older Pavilion ze4200, the larger keys have a slight "rattle" when you press them, especially the left SHIFT and the ENTER keys. As I said, it is annoying, not something I cannot put up with and probably get used to. Also, I'm not sure "rattle" is the right word, because that brings up visions of something loose in the door of an automobile. The keys are evidently just a bit loose (it may be the spring making the "rattling" noise), and that may be absolutely normal. I live too far away from a retailer to go check out other keyboards.
1. Is this just the way the dv6000 keyboard is and I will get used to it?
2. Is this typical of most notebooks, regardless of manufacturer?
3. Is this merely a little bit of "buyer's remorse" since I have a few more days left to return it to CompUSA?![]()
4. What about upgrading to a business model? Would I give up features I like in the dv6000 if I went with, say, the nx7300?
I realize I could get an external keyboard, but that would place the display farther away from my old eyes.
Any comments will be much appreciated.

For question 2, I think on a lot of model yes. My acer, every second key I push I get the sound your describing.
-
Yes, I've experienced the rattle on the dv2000t. I guess this is a common issue with many notebooks. The keys on the Sony felt like they were going to pop out. Compared to that that HP feels better.

My feeling is that the key will pick on you and you are not going to be happy about it.
Return it and get a new one. You can also buy an external keyboard from CompUSA so you are even . -
If I know that the way my notebook's keys sound is fairly common, I can get used to it. Nothing in life is perfect; everything requires some sort of adjustment. The only thing worse than having a perceived problem to start with is to take it back after having installed my apps and files and then doing it all over with another keyboard that's really no better.
On the other hand, if keyboards are usually quieter than what I have, I would regret not exchanging it while I have a few days to do so. The more I check around, the more I think this is fairly common, regardless of manufacturer. Is that right?

Broadus:
I am not sure if it's your keyboard or not...why not go down to the nearest big box store and try out some of the different HP keyboards? Then you can safely decide if you might have a less then perfect keyboard or the sound is typical.
I know my NX9420 has a pretty quiet keyboard in terms of the keys sort of rattling when I push them. The space-bar does have a bit of that sound to it. And more so the the Dells I have. But the regular keys are fine.
I think it's normal to get a tad persnickety (I LOVE that word!!) about such a significant purchase, especially so as you near the cut-off date for a full refund return...
I do not blame you either...the keyboard is a very intimate part of a laptop. You interact with is more the any other component on the system except for the display. And one of the reasons I returned the dv9000 system was because I could not stand the keyboard layout. The feel was fine though...
EDIT: if ya do go check out other systems, take yours with you so you can immediately compare... -
Thanks, Grumpy.
I'm about 35 miles from the nearest big retail store, but I may have to take the time in a couple of days if I cannot find the answer to my satisfaction. I think my level of persnicketiness is heightened when the "trial" period is coming to an end.
It seems that all the larger keys--left SHIFT, BACKSPACE, and ENTER (the SPACE BAR less so)--make this sound, so it must be something in the way those keys are secured or whatever.
The letter and number keys are all quieter. Does the size of the key have something to do with it?
