Does HP or Compaq offer non-glossy displays? I think I'll have to cancel my Dell order (have been waiting for over 40 days!) and get another notebook but I need something with a matte display.

    Thanks! :)

Not sure about their consumer line, but their business line comes with matte screens.

I don't think the consumer versions come with matte screens. I sure wish mine did.

I do remember that HP used to offer their consumer line of laptops with the option of glossy or matte (It was when their new line first came out). Unfortunately it appears that they do not offer matte on the consumer models anymore (at least through ordering via their website). I wonder if you called directly if they would accommodate the request?

They're not going to special order a matte screen for you and stop the production process to insert it on. The only HP's that have matte screens are the business lines.

I'm pretty sure they only offer glossy with the pavilions. They used to offer matte, but I guess they "figured" that consumers would only want glossy, since they are so much brighter and deliver so much more color. Which, of course, is totally false; while glossy screens do deliver a brighter and more vibrant picture, they also suffer from glare and smudging, which consumers DO care about, as we are witnessing here. If you want to go with HP and get a matte screen, you have to go with the HP Compaq Business line (Not to be confused with the Compaq Presario line)
