I just got an envy 14 model number 1211nr. I thought that the name of the graphics card it has was ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 as listed here: HP ENVY 14-1211nr Notebook PC Product Specifications HP ENVY 14-1211nr Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Thing is my computer says the name of the graphics this computer has is intel HD even though it says the manufacturer is ATI, take a look: imgur: the simple image sharer

Are the graphics in this computer the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 or the Intel HD? I am a little confused, thanks

It's both. Intel HD is for simple graphics tasks (displaying desktop and windows, for example) and doesn't consume much electric power. Radeon graphics (from AMD) is for games, movies and multi-monitor work. It consumes more power, but its performance is much higher compared to Intel HD chip.

You can switch between them with a "Configure Switchable Graphics" program found in Your system. You can configure it to automatically switch to Intel graphics when on battery (better battery life) and to AMD graphics when connected to a power cord (better performance). You can also switch them manually, according to Your liking.

Always only one graphics chip works at a time (Intel or AMD)

Both - the intel graphics are built into the processor, and the ATI graphics are a dedicated chip. You can switch between these by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "Configure Switchable Graphics".

edit - oops - late to the party...
