So I was playing the other day and I became curious as to what temperatures my laptop has.

When I had my Radeon HD 6770 on, and was playing a game, it was at 65.0 Celsius. Is that normal, high? or whatever for playing games?

It usually stays around the 45-55 whenever Im not doing much.

65C is absolutely fine. Not bad at all, actually. For notebooks I would get worried around the 80-85C mark.

Alright, cool. It hasn't ascended that high before so I guess I'm fine.

yeah those numbers are perfectly acceptable and even 80-85C is acceptable if its during a heavy gaming session

with these laptops it's the CPU that you need to keep an eye on :p

What's a bad temperature for the CPU while gaming?

90+ is technically acceptable but you should try to lower it (CPU threshold is at 100C, so it will shut off automatically at that temp)

65c is excellent. My old dell hit 80c idle.

I checked the CPU temperatures with a program called Core Temp.

    Are these considered 'normal' temperatures?

Right now I have 3D Mark Vantage up (not testing but the main menu) Chrome, and Core Temp are all up. Steam is in the background and whatnot.

For some reason, I can hear the fan and I can never hear it unless Im playing games. Why is the fan blowing so hard right now? thanks guys.

One core reports 69% load at this instant. Are temperatures still at ~60C when the computer isn't doing anything?

Is your computer already set to the "balanced" power profile? The temps seem a bit hot, though I'm not sure if they are still hot for your particular CPU and laptop model. What is CoolSense set to? I think your computer should have that option somewhere.

I'm not sure about coolsense, but its on "HP Recommended" atm.

I closed my laptop for a few minutes, and here are the temps (idle)

And another question, why can I hear my fans working? Usually unless I'm running a game, it's absolutely silent but lately I've been hearing the fans in there.

Hmm. Well I restarted the laptop and now it seems fairly silent. It also looks like my CPU temperatures are hovering between 40-50 degrees.

Any idea what could of caused the previous idle temperatures? I could hear the fan going without anything being done.

Once you use it for a while background processes from the programs you run start to stack up and heat your comp up.

Alright, what can I do to get rid of these excess processes?

No, I don't think I was watching any videos...

I went through and I canceled a bunch of the excess processes. I don't hear the fan anymore and it only goes up to 60-70 now when I am playing games.

    Look through msconfig too.
