I just saw your post on Windows XP MCE clean install. It is not illegal to post a torrent link. I do not host the torrent file or a copy of the .iso. Matter of fact, Microsoft does issue a license to those who fail the WGA for a pirated copy if they pay the $150 fee. MS than check after payment to see if the files are altered and allows your computer get updates with a pirated copy. I just want to make sure that bloatware and spyware is not put on my computer. You have a OEM license to use Windows XP MCE when you bought your laptop, HP had decided not to give you disk to encourage use of their bloatware.
Additionally, one of the reinstallation guides has a link to the same file in the newsgroups. I don't like being called pirate, I shouldn't be forced to pay $300 to get a clean install on my computer. Whoever is going after torrents is concerned about a copy of these disk with a HP VLA being posted on a torrent which I did not forsee or advocate.
I am not worried about going to jail, I did nothing wrong (trying to be funny). I just wanted my previous post deleted to give you a heads up and to avoid any problems with whoever is lurking out there.

NBR doesn't promote, or even allow discussions on how to obtain, torrents of commercial pay software that allow users to "steal" a copy of the software.
Despite the very good intentions of those threads discussing how to make a clean installation of XP, they required the user to download a torrent of the OS. Even if one is not hosting the torrent or and ISO, posting links is against NBR's policy.
There are legal ways to make your own XP disc (look up the slipstreaming SP2 & drivers instructions that Microsoft posts). If you can figure out how to do a clean install without torrents we'd love to have it stickied for everyone's benefit. As long as it doesn't involve any bypassing of security, WGA checks, torrents, and uses only 100% legal methods and files, we are fine with that.
No, you aren't a software pirate...and I applaud attempts to rid these computers of bloatware. But it is better to keep torrent discussions off the forums to protect both the users and site itself. I'm sure MS wouldn't like a sticky on how to pirate a copy of XP!

Yeah it is just weird, for a torrent sites to pull a link down for copyright reasons even though the file has been on their for weeks or a year (a few days after my Windows MCE clean install post). Some guy with a username danb sent me a PM asking for assistance, said he couldn't get it to work and needed help. Two days after my reply to whoever this guy was the torrent was taken down at the site. I am not worried since I have first amendment rights to speak freely on here. I didn't give any serial number or post the file for this guy.
Somebody must has gotten to the site with a letter or phone call. I wouldn't think they actively look to remove copyrighted files themselves(lol). I am thinking somebody is trying to prevent people from doing clean installs (HP) or having a HP VLA copy of MCE (Microsoft). It could be nothing but it just doesn't feel right. Just be careful what you say on these forums. I need to get me a Chairman Mao suit since this country and corporations are starting to treat its citizen like China.
I feel sorry for the people that can't get the bloatware/spyware crap off, you know longer "own" your computer, the computer manufacturers, bloatware companies, and Microsoft tell you how you will use this equipment now. -
MS actively searches for things like that. It doesn't surprise me that it went down. Also, sometimes they can't catch everything, but stumble upon something that has been up for a year or more.
Those posts were edited mainly to protect the forums (and you for that matter). I wouldn't worry about getting in trouble from this though. I closed those threads because that discussion was heading towards a troublesome topic almost itching towards using a pirated version of XP. Sorry if I came across as too harsh.
There is supposed to be a way to make your own disc without a torrent (just using the files on the hard drive), and that's perfectly fine AFAIK. I would be nice if someone could figure that out!
FYI, it probably is a good idea to not post (or PM) links to an XP torrent. Not illegal, but it promotes piracy (and that's illegal). -
As chairman of the Communist Party, I have noted that you (night_2004) and some of the user on this board have been posted a desire to do a clean install on our computer. As a result of this subversive behavior, I will have to send users requesting a information on a clean install to a re-education camp for year. Afterwards, you will accept the bloatware that we (HP, Dell, Toshiba) have put on our computer.
Sincerely,
Chairman of the United States Communist Party -
Well, I think I've got the solution to Your problems
Although maybe not perfect and still needs You to have your laptop shipped with Windows MCE but I think it works
(Im writing it here, but mods, feel free to move the post and create a new topic if You think it will be better)
Thinkg we are gonna do:
create a Windows MCE installation disk
Things You need:
CD, CDRW (for the first burn), i386 folder on your HDD where U've got your Windows, if U havn't got SP2 integrated U need to download it from Microsoft, if U have SP2 integrated two files - win51ic.sp2 or/and win51ip.sp2, 30 min of timeand Your REAL Windows key.
I found that my key was different than the one on the sticker (I guess it's the multi license key that HP bought for their laptops). To obtain You key just download that program and run it. It will tell U your key. Write it down to put it during the installation.
Let's go then.
First of all, let's download this.
Create directory called 'bcd' on one of your partitions.
Extract all the files into that directory.
Download ASPSI driver and copy it to ..\bcd\bin\
Download this and copy it to 'bcd' directory.
Now copy the whole 'i386' folder with all the files and directories inside to ..\bcd\cds\wxppro\files\
if U have SP2 integrated U need to put win51ic.sp2 or/and win51ip.sp2 there as well. [u can either ask me to send U them or download SP2, extract it to a separate folder and find them in root\ip directory there]
if U would like to integrate SP2 into Your MCE apply the pack by using
sp2_file_name.exe -s:c:\bcd\cds\wxppro\files\
[note that this directory is just an example as U might have your files on drive D, so U need to change is accordingly]
U should have *.sp2 files now in ..\files\ directory.
Go Start\Run and type command.
go to your bcd folder (using cd.. and cd directory_name to move around - do U remember what DOS is?) and type: bcd wxppro
That should run the process of creating an iso image of your cd and then it will burn if u want (use CDRW first to make sure everything is working fine).
Test the CD, if it boots correctly and so on.
This worked for me. I still havent install my windows from that CD as I need to perform some tests on my new laptop and than I will install clear Windows but everything seemed to be fine to the moment U choose the partition where Windows is going to be installed (I just quit the installation process).
The whole solution is based on the Bart's Way of creating bootable CD's. Just made it quicker I think
