[?]I just got my HP ZX5000. Can anyone tell me:

    1. How long you can project it will last in a few circumstances.

    2. First notebook; Do they last for a while or will I be buying another one 6 months down the road?

    3. What's the best way to take care of it? I just bought hardcase for it even though I don't plan i traveling that much with it at all. I'm planning on getting a keyboard and mouse as well. I'm pretty knowledgable about computers what with taking care of them and stuff. But any tips?

    4. I know some other people have ZX5000s. How long has yours lasted so far? Any troubles at all?

If anyone can help me out here that'd be great because i'm stumped.
So far I couldn't be happier with my purchase; which is exactly why I want to take care of it as best as possible. Heeeelp.

    Imperial03,

To be honest, no one can predict how long something will last. If there's no problems with the unit (manufacturing) and all the parts work flawlessly, it could last for years. But, if there's a problem with 1 part or something starts to fail, it could be soon before you need repairs. So it's a really dificult thing to say. I have had my Toshiba notebook for the past 3+ years without fault, but my brother's GF had her Toshiba (same model as mine, bought at the same time) needed repairs within the 3 years (some her fault, others because of failure).

To take care of your notebook, just be careful with it. You have to be very a**l-retentive with your notebook. Don't put anything on your keyboard (pencil/pen) and close the lid, don't spill anything on your notebook & don't drop it.

I'd recommend getting an extended warranty for the notebook. When I mentioned my brother's GF needing repairs on her notebook, 2 major repairs happened after the standard 1 year warranty was up. Luckily there was an extended warranty on here system, otherwise it would have cost her over $1000CDN to get repaired (LCD & systemboard). You could also get the Accidental Damage Protection Coverage. This way if you do spill something on the unit or crack the LCD, it'll still be covered.
