Hello! I'm looking for a laptop that will allow me to efficiently run Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Management Studio 2005.

Can anyone here recommend a Compaq notebook suited for a .NET developer? My company is suggesting the 8510p, but I have heard that Visual Studio is sluggish on that machine.

I have the 8510p and it was a base 1GB ram machine and added a 2gb ram stick and at 3gb it is a very good machine. I am a developer as well and i actually use a vmware server windows 2003 server virtual session with 1 gb of ram using visual studio 2005 and sql server 2005 express. I have been using the notebook for 8 months as a development machine and it has been a great buy. I added a bigger drive and I just went from a t7300 to a t9300 processor which is a big improvement on heat and noise. If you can get a base 1gb ram t9300 version of the 8510p and then update the ram and possibly the hard drive after will get you a very good development machine without the premium price you pay for addons. The 1680x1024 resolution is very good and i would never go back to a smaller resoultion on the 15" notebook.
