so after some thinking i thought it would be best to just have HP repair my notebook but here's the problem...
1. out of warranty, i got my notebook on January 3rd 2007
2. custom painted lid, palm rest and quick launch/ power button cover
so for now, im ordering the parts that i painted temporarily from here
but as for #1, i hear that they will replace your notebook [in this case] even if it is out of warranty.
if most of you don't know, there is a problem with V3000 notebooks not powering up right [black screen, not even showing bios/ keys unresponsive]
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us#
what i want to know is, has anyone [im sure someone has gone through something like this, because i know that there are a few V3000 notebook owners [or similar models] that had this problem.![]()

Yup, I've got a dv6400 in front of me right now that is exhibiting one of the symptoms mentioned in the Limited Warranty Service Enhancement:
If I did decide to send it in, I'd just throw junk ram & hard drive in it as I'm not exactly sure what I'd be getting back from the original unit (if anything)....... -
The warranty extension is valid for the first 24 months, so make sure you get it fixed before the 2yrs is up from the date of sale on your ntoebook.
-
also i see that this is a "free repair" so i'm assuming there are no strings attached.
also about the warranty, is it when your place an order for your notebook or the day you receive it? -
-
but anyways, cant you just wipe (copy before you do) the drive and then give it in.. -
-
ok, nice find, but about the replacement, i hear they just replace the motherboard, is that right?
-
-
so wait, has anyone here had their motherboard successfully replaced under this "free repair" and hasn't run into problems since then?
-
(My original thread - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=283664)
Hi
I got 1 of the symptons on the link on your first post.
- The external monitor functions but there is no image on the notebook LCD panel.
However, my model is v3701VU. I sent it into the service center in my country and they replaced the motherboard for me. However, the problem is still occuring, but my BIOS is at F.2A
A video of it malfunctioning: http://www.vimeo.com/1556829
The unit is running fine, its just the LCD problem. The LCD occasionaly got backlight. This problem is also happens intermittently.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
so you didnt send it back for them to fix it (again)
also look at your thread the "flipping 360 of the notebook" would happen the same way. that was the only way i could get my notebook to boot or i mean get pass the bios. now it wont boot at all -
Nonetheless, I am hoping for a new and latest BIOS update other than the F.2B
F.2B bios doesn't seemed to solve the LCD issue. -
It didnt worked for mine as well, but I just kept hitting. - (Lol - desperate to get it started) and the screen showed again. -
you didn't tell HP about the problem after? i mean shouldn't they be liable if they didn't fix it in the first place? -
i just hope a BIOS update can sort of improve it.
the ironic thing is, as this model of notebook is offered by my school, hence actually 3 of my classmates are using the same exact with no problems, and only me facing this crap! -

Okay
It broke again the last few days...!
I turned it on and the bottom left was black/blank, while the rest of the screen still have a "bit" of brightness(barely visible), but flickering badly.
Restarted it again, this time it is totally black/blank again.
This is the fifth time I am sending in this laptop to the Service Centre. -
after the third i would have requested a new laptop
i mean isn't the lemon law 3 strikes?
also what was the problem with the notebook during each of the 5 times you sent it in. or was it all the same problem?
also how many days did the problem happen after the repair? because it says that after the repair there is still a 90 day warranty after it is "repaired" -
I've got the Nvidia chip problem. 1st repair they re imaged the hard drive. 2nd repair they did not re image the hard drive. I don't know what they did exactly on either repair but I'm now waiting on repair #3
Mine was 3 months out of original warranty. I am being covered under the warranty enhancement though my model isn't specifically mentioned. Generally though it does fit the parameters--DV9000 and GO7600. Black screen on boot. -
anyways i dont care if they do because im going to copy my hard drive before i send it in and just wipe it clean.
right now my V3000z is about 9 months out of warranty, but it died a month ago, but never got a chance to send it in yet. but i am still covered for another 3 months on the "warranty enhancement" because if the defective motherboard i now have.
anyways, how far apart did the notebook fail again? because the warranty states that they give you another 90 days after the repair if anything else goes wrong. i just want to be sure that if anything does go wrong it happens in those 90 days so that i don't have to pay out of my own pocket.
hopefully if your notebook fails again you get a new notebook under the lemon law. -
They claimed it was an issue with the programs I had, and shoo-ed me off. I just lived with it as I need it for my school work.
(notsure)#2 - DVD drive connector losen.
(22 july)#3 - LCD issue first happened to me, couldn't re-produce it at the Service Centre though.
(31 july)#4 - Replacing the Motherboard due to the LCD issue.
(30 august)#5 - This time round. -
Don't know "why" they had to reimage the hard drive. Doesn't make sense to me as I understand it, but they warned me they might.
After the 1st repair the notebook failure in about a week. After the 2nd repair it failed immediately.
Like you I'm worried about the timing of failure #3. I fully expected the first repair to be the end. But now after 3 failures, 2 after repair, I fully expect it to fail again. Just a matter of when. 1 failure is a mistake. 2 is a coincidence. 3 failures is a pattern. -
i think the problem is that they are not "repairing" the motherboard like they say, they are just replacing it with the same motherboard which will eventually end up the same as your old one.
so wait, i was on your thread and you said that the person you talked to said they would give you a new notebook if it comes back doa or dies eventually? any ideas or choices they gave you?
dv4/dv5/tx/mini note?... -
we didn't discuss which notebook. right now my concern is that it be a WORKING notebook.
It will be an AMD /ATI based notebook this time. I don't think Nvidia quite has a handle on this problem right now. Though notebooks may be going out the door in good shape, who knows what 1 year from now will bring. -
1 working day passed
the service centre never contacted me yet, although the the staff promised me to have a express troubleshoot -
Hope it doesn't spoilts again =/ -
-
And it failed so they changed the new LCD(basically the whole LID).
