    Hi,
I just bought an HP dv6810us 2 days ago and I am having some problems. Just this morning my notebook was on for about 20 minutes and it shutdown instantly. It wouldnt turn on for about a half hour. When I turned it on again, the same thing happened. I was on for about 20 minutes then it turned off.

Does anybody know how to correct this issue?

I'm not entirely sure, but you could disconnect the power plug and the battery. Then hold down the power button on the notebook for 30 seconds. Reconnect everything and maybe with God overlooking it will be corrected?

Do try that though. Usually with power problems that helps.

its still shutting down. Is it possible that it is overheating? I havent heard the fan come on, and I dont know if it just running at a low RPM.

Have you updated the BIOS? Check for any other updates?

since you bought it only 2 days ago, you should get it exchanged. It sounds like the heatsink/fan is not doing its job.

When the computer shuts off, does it freeze before hand? It could be a number of things including heating problems, hard drive problems, memory problems and/ or motherboard problems.

    I agree, heat issue.

Call your tech support, deal with the 30 useless minutes you'll have with the tier 1 guys, get bumped up to tier 2, and get an RMA.

    Painful but necessary :(

Well I got off the phone with HP support. They told me to update the bios, so I will try that after the notebook cools off a little bit. If not, its back to Circuit City for an exchange.

Just want to know, has anybody else had any issue with HP's overheating?

Problems are inevitable. They can occur from a variety of reasons and with everything around us.

I'm sure Circuit City will be glad to assist you. If not, then there are ways to get help from HP. They're very friendly about it and even offer replacements to people with continuous problems.

Thank you everybody for the input with the problem. I tried reflashing the BIOS with the newest version, but I still have the issue. Tomorrow I am going to take it back to CC and get it exchanged.

If you just bought it two days ago at Circuit City, I wouldn't even try to do any troubleshooting. Do yourself a favor and take it back for a replacement. I wouldn't even stress about trying to fix it.

Just let him exchange it. He was sold a lemon. Don't make him think he bought a notebook that required maintenance 24/7.
