I have a HP pavillion dv9610us Notebook which i never really have had issues with until now. As of this past week, when I close my lid and the notebook goes to sleep it is getting sooooo friggin hot now when I come back to use it when before it never did. Any suggestions as to what I should check for or maybe ideas to solve this problem would be deeply appreciated.

Your laptop should not get hot at all. In fact, it should cool down and stay cool as though it was turned off.

I think there's something wrong with your sleep mode. Try updating your chipset and video card to the latest version.

I take it no one else has a clue as to what could cause this?

Are you sure it is going to sleep / standby mode?

Try to manually put it into standby / sleep mode. Notice if it really goes into sleep mode and see if it is getting hot.

    or...

As you stated you "close my lid" and there is a chance that the LCD switch is not working correctly and not turning off the LCD and your notebook is not going into standby mode.

Is the laptop sleeping when the lid is closed? If not have you dissembled the screen at all?

After manually putting it into sleep/standby atleast 30 times, only one time did it actually go into sleep. This is really messed up and no, I never have taken my screen apart.

Is your hard drive full? Do you have any important data on it? If not you could try reformatting it.

That would explain why your notebook gets hot... it does not go to sleep.

My Hd is not full and matter of fact I just did a clean install about 3 weeks ago because I was letting my aunt use my notebook until she purchased herself a new one. I know this might sound odd, but I am thinking that this all started after I did a windows update. Guess I will have to do it again.
