I'd like to extend the life of my hp dv9700t as much as possible.. has anyone had any experience with the ZM-NC2000 and the dv9700t? Does it do a good job at reducing the temperatures?

I have a friend with that laptop and he has a Enermax Aolus or something like that... It has a huge single fan on it and a wrist wrest and everything. Very nice cooler and it doess a fantastic job he says. look into it.

I bought a dv9000t last year and heat was a major concern. The first-generation Core 2 Duo, 256mb nVIDIA graphics and dual hard drives packed into a 17" notebook case caused a LOT of heat buildup. It didn't reach critical levels, but it routinely hovered near the upper threshold of acceptable temps.
Like you, I was concerned with the long term effects of sustained higher-than-average temperatures. Unfortunately, HP was of little....make that NO...help! A forum member on the HP support site suggested that a different (older) version of BIOS that should help and it actually did. I was fortunate that there were no other complications from reverting to an older BIOS.
I also starting using some practical measures to combat the heat- always using the system on a flat, hard surface (lap desk, table, even a wooden cutting board) to ensure the best air flow; using an object to elevate the back of the unit by 1/2 inch or so; using compressed air and a Q-tip to clean air vents; keeping fuzzy objects (i.e.- the cat) away from it and making sure nothing was placed within a foot or two of the exhaust vents.
I also purchased a Targus ChillHub to actively pull heat away from the notebook using two its two additional fans. I strongly recommend it or a similar active solution for anyone concerned with heat. -
Yeah I also got the Targus chill pad...so far it is the best one...both fans run 2500 rpm...all the other brands were running lower than that...I got it at Frys electronic...
