I am having the notebook mentioned in my sig. It was working perfectly till yesterday. Today morning when I started the machine, it just refused to do so . There are 3 beeps whenever I try to start it and then it remains on with a blank screen. Please help me out with this problem as this notebook is my only medium of daily productivity and I don't want to spend wads of cash by taking it to a service center as the warranty expired long back.

Hello!
My DV9000 does the exact same thing, without any reason. I have no idea why and I ended up buying a new computer (another DV9xxx) with some support from HP.
If you found a solution, let me know =) -
"Your computer has memory problems. First check video. If video is working, you'll see an error message. If not, you have a parity error in your first 64K of memory. First check your SIMM's. Reseat them and reboot. If this doesn't do it, the memory chips may be bad. You can try switching the first and second banks memory chips. First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds its first 64K of base memory in. You'll need to consult your manual to see which bank is first. If all your memory tests good, you probably need to buy another motherboard"
According to beep codes... try google 'beep codes' -
Well in the meantime I have done some research on this problem. The exact beep sequence is 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps which actually means a video failure. Either the video card itself is gone or the connections have become loose due to overheating. Why I am saying this is because many users who experienced the same problem actually managed to boot up their PCs by keeping them in an extended heating period. So that means that the GPU hasn't malfunctioned but there might be some problem in the internal circuitry which prevents the computer from doing a cold booting. I am keeping my fingers crossed and am awaiting more replies from people who have encountered similar problems.
@kanehi: I have reseated my memory modules but nothing happened. -
OK now an update. I called up HP Tech Support in New Delhi,India. The tech support guy was very helpful and assured me that the warranty has been extended for my model till November 2008. He also told that the motherboard along with the GPU will be replaced free of cost.

Congratz =) Cross your fingers that it wont happen again...

My concern is that with what will they replace the Go 7600? I doubt they will be having any stock of that GPU. I will also not settle for any entry level GPU since Go 7600 was a mid-level card of its time and the particular model of the dv9000 series was the most premium model available in India at that time.
-
No, they will be forced to give you a model which they have in stock.
It will definately be better as the Go 7600 has been phased out for a long while
You will most likely get a dv9700 with a 8600m GS or maybe even a dv7t if your lucky -
-
They will most likely just give you a brand new notebook, not replace it. I highly doubt they will still have the defective go7600 boards around.
The 8600m GS is definately an significant improvement from the 7600. I think it was like 1000+ more points in 3dmark06 -
congratulations getting it fixed. but anyhow, u need to backup ur data in another hard drive. if hes getting a new notebook, will they just swap the hard drive?

Yeah that is also another headache. Anyway the local HP service centre called me on Wednesday. I will be updating this thread as the events progress.

Time for another update. As I was quite busy all the last week,I took my notebook on Friday to the local HP service centre. I talked to the Head and he told me that the warranty has been extended only for the motherboard. He also added that all HP models' components are available for 3 years from that model's release as the customers have the option to upgrade their existing 1 year warranty to 3 years. The motherboard will be arriving only on Monday so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
-
Well the motherboard got delayed. So don't exactly have any idea. Also the manager has offered me a warranty extension from current 1 year to 3 years for Rs 6500($147). I will definitely be going for it as HP spare parts have a bad reputation.

Well the final day of repair brought some mixed news. The good thing is they were able to completely repair the notebook without even touching the OS. They changed the motherboard containing a brand new Go 7600. That means all my previous settings including SP1 remain as it is. The bad thing is that they said they can't extend the warranty as the NVIDIA problem means that only the motherboard has got an extended warranty for 1 more year. The rest of the laptop already ran out of warranty in July 2008.
Overall I would rate this experience as 7/10.
Time taken to complete the repair and return the laptop=Effectively 4 days. -
