    Hey all,

Got a problem with my Envy 14 (1st gen). Notebook was running fine during class, no problems. But once I got home and started using it again, it started holding up and "crawling." Temps got ridiculously high. Couldn't move my cursor around or minimize my window without significant lag. Tried to reboot notebook, but found it was stuck at the BIOS screen. Found it gets past BIOS only if I turn the Envy on while disconnected. Temps are back down to relatively normal low 50s, though I'm used to it being slightly lower than that.

Definitely sounds like a hardware malfunction. I don't think you can do anything but send it in to HP for repair. Good luck!

If you can see the BIOS screen, then it's most likely not the GPU.
It should be sent in IMO

Problem solved itself mysteriously after rebooting and forcefully turning off over a stretch of 20 minutes. My notebook is just plain weird, and now that HP's manufacturer's warranty has expired, I'm officially on 2 more years of Square Trade's warranty.

The charging board is gone or part of the BIOS may have become corrupted. Try to utilise your warranty and backup before the problem reoccurs again.

All my documents are constantly backed up on dropbox and I have a kickass 1.5tb Samsung for all the movies and vids. Thanks for the reminder though. Once I have time this weekend, I'm going to make sure I'm up and ready for the worst case scenario!

I'm guessing it's a charging board issue. I previous had a problem with the notebook just refusing to start up. I'm actually hoping this notebook dies on me sometime a few months before my warranty dies so I can cash in my $1,249 check from SQ and get one of those ultrabooks when they're released.
