In Vista it averages ~65C to 78C normal use(no gaming). The max I have seen is 98C. It was similar in XP but the idle loads were a bit lower. Ofcourse my notebook did have overheating issues with the GPU and was fixed by HP under warranty. During that time the GPU hovered around 85C idle and reached 125C under load.

So should I consider 74C in IDLE as a bit too high and send it back for a repair??

Wow, didn't know the Go 6150 ran that hot. My 8600m GT idles at those temps.

Well, a direct comparision cant be made since different systems use different heatpipes. I have seen the Go 6150 run much cooler in another V3000z with the single core Sempron with idle temps around 55C. So, the TX2 does seem to have its impact here since HP uses a single heat pipe to cool both components.

Which software are you using to get GPU temps? I have tried a number of software programs and I am lucky if I can get them to read the CPU core temps. I have not found one that will read HDD temps or GPU.

    Thanks.

Mine idles around 69-72 C. Or at least did before upgrading to Vista from XP. Haven't found a software yet that would read my GPU or HDD temps in Vista.

If you have XP you should be able to read the temp from the Nvidia utility in Display settings. In Vista I don't remember if can see the GPU temp.

In Vista You should be able to do it with Everest. I havent checked though as I run XP on that machine.

Its going for yet another repair as it is more than sure that it is GPU f***** again.

I am using Nvidia's ntune to monitor the GPU and the chipset temperatures...
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html
This works in both XP and Vista. In XP the chipset temperatures are only displayed if you have the newer chipset and GPU(try 156.73) drivers installed.

For the CPU, I typically use Core Temp...
    http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

and for the HD, HD Tune does the job in XP...
    http://www.hdtune.com/
This will work in Vista as well but you will have to make use of workaround by using the XP nvidia SATA driver for it to display the hd temperatures. It is not something I would recommend but if you really want to see the temps then this is the way to do it...

I will give it a try. Thanks.

Thanks so much for posting this! That really sucks about Nvidia not fixing this even after months have passed. I don't think I will try the hack but I am glad to finally know the reason for the problem.

At most you should get an updated BIOS(F.37) which is not on their download site for the trouble. ;) Thats what I got plus they replaced the motherboard, wireless, DVD, touch pad & HDD after keeping the laptop for a month over the overheating issue.

    Bump... sorry...

Everyday I'm getting more worried about my GPU temps, my temps are at idle 79 C min and 89 C max, average ~85 C acording to CPUID hardware monitor

My laptop has almost a year old, and till now I realized this problem.

How can I stess the GPU to check the temps?

Do I need to start get really worried about this?

    Thanks

    Ok,

I've just updated my BIOS (F.3D) and the change is remarkable, my temps went from 85 C at idle to 72 C. niceeee

And the processor is way more cool.

    Edit: typos/

i thought you would have seen the big thread "F.3D makes your cpu run cooler" or something like that. Thats why i asked if you were running the latest bios
