Quick Question:
I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics card. It has the same driver version since I bought my computer (about 3 months ago), which is 7.15.11.7553.
Now Nvidia has new drivers available on it's website for notebook GPUs.
Why is this new driver from NVIDIA version 179.28 ?
And is it worth updating?
thanks

NVidia uses a different numbering for their drivers than your manufacturer does. I would recommend upgrading to the NVidia drivers, they are much better as manufacturer's drivers normally limit your cards ability quite a bit.

You should get your drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. I'm currently using 181.00 drivers and they're great so far.

Dox' 180.84 1.1 for me, they're a beauty.

NEW QUESTION:
Well I updated my driver to the new NVidia driver and things seem to be great.
One thing that seems new to me is this:
Now when I watch an HD video on Youtube, the video is a lot bigger than before! It's great.
Was this because of my new driver?? Cause I didn't notice this before.
EDIT: apparently it's not the driver because my other computer has the bigger youtube hd videos now too. Nice new feature on youtube though. -

Nvidia traditionally handled their desktop drivers and let laptop makers custom tuned their drivers for release. To stay abreast of the newest drivers, users had to use a modified inf file so their laptops would recognize the newest drivers for install.
Nvidia is *finally* getting with the times somewhat and updating their drivers to offer a mobile version to stay somewhat in sync with their desktop version.
Depending on what you want to do, I'd recommend the Nvidia new mobile release or the laptopvideo2go modded info and the latest official Nvidial WHQL release (which is 180.48 atm).
Always look through the update notes to see what has changed and if everything is working fine as is, ask why you need the newest version. -
Negative. My 9600M GT has 512 MB of dedicated memory and utilizes 1 GB of my total RAM (4 GB) which works for me since Windows Vista never uses that extra 1 GB since it's only a 32 bit OS.
The moment I installed the latesat drivers from laptopvideo2go My 3DMark 05 score dropped by a 100 points and I noticed that my video card is not using any more shared memory. 0 when i checked the advances adapter properties
my advice to u......keep using the latest manufacturer driver. -
7.15.11.7553 --> 17553 --> version 175.53
You'll probably see your 179.28 version uses driver ?.??.?1.7928
Not sure about the first five digits, they may be specific to OS version i.e. Vista / XP etc... -

I remember from earlier that the drivers from laptopvideo had made it so that the BLUERAY player didn't work as well, are these issues now fixed in the newest laptopvideo or nvidia drivers? Or is there a way around this problem. Thank you

I installed laptopvideo's drivers on my Sony notebook and PowerDVD stopped working. So, I guess, the issues hasn't been resolved. I've yet to look into any workarounds.
