    Hi to all.

Recently I went to the HP site and found a driver for my Nvidia graphics card for my notebook for Vista (hp pavilion dv8320us - Windows Vista Home Premium), but It's for the Gforce Go 7400, and my lappy has a 7600. Does this driver work with my GPU? Currently I have installed the driver provided by microsoft, so...Does this driver from HP works better? Can I install it with no problem?

My best bet is to let Vista find an updated driver for you since it's specific in it's requirements.

I would recommend going to either tweaksrus.com or laptopvideo2go.com to get your drivers, they will perform better and give better quality, its a bit more involved but its worth it. Also do your homework on the driver your about to install and choose one that has been around longer. I just updated mine and ran into BSODs because I chose a driver that was brand new and had little feedback.

I tried installing the Vista 64-bit drivers from nvidia.com (versin 158.24) and it said it couldn't locate any drivers that are compatible with my current hardware.

    From this page http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

    I selected Graphics Driver / GeForce 8 series / Windows Vista 64-bit

    I have a 6500t with the nVidia 8400.

    Here is my display configuration:
    [Display]
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz (1995 MHz)
    Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista
    DirectX version: 10.0
    GPU processor: GeForce 8400M GS
    ForceWare version: 101.29
Total available graphics memory: 895 MB
    Dedicated video memory: 128 MB
    System video memory: 0 MB
    Shared system memory: 767 MB
    Video BIOS version: 60.86.44.00.14
    IRQ: 5
    Bus: PCI Express x16

    MikePolinske,

This is because the driver you selected in all likelihood wasn't made for the 8400 specifically. In the driver itself there is a .inf file that contains the supported hardware for the driver, your card is probably not on that list. The solution to this is to go to a site that modifies these drivers and the .inf file so they work with many or most graphics cards. I would recommend going to either laptopvideo2go.com or tweaksrus.com and download the driver from there and follow their directions. There is also a guide in the first/only sticky in the graphics forum on how to update drivers and the instructions for each of those sites is in that guide, or at least last time I checked.

But before you do install one of their drivers research it in their forums and see which is best for you. Some offer better performance while some give better image quality and also some are brand new and don't have a lot stress testing behind them and may cause erros and BSoDs to occur (which recently happenned to me).

There are Microsoft-sanctioned Vista drivers that allow the backlight control. I've had a big problem finding a way to enable keyboard backlight control using the modded drivers from tweaksrus and laptopvideo2go. For now, I can live without the backlight control (since if I'm on battery I want to save as much battery life I can), although if it gets to be too much a nuisance I'll switch back to Microsoft drivers. The HP drivers are out-of-date, and the Microsoft drivers available through Windows Update function just as well.

Does the preinstalled nVidia driver in dv9500t need to be updated with the new ones availabe on the HP site ??
My WEI score for my new laptop is 3.1 !! Thats terrible.. and all because of the lowest scoring Graphics Areo subscore which is 3.1. I have a nVidia 8400 GS in this laptop. The Graphics 3d Component is a handsome 4.3.

That's really strange because my WEI out of the box was 3.5 for Aero and 4.6 for Graphics.
