    Hello,

I have been going crazy trying to fix this problem. My laptop screen started acting up, it was pixlating and flashing different colors on the screen and then it just goes blank. The only way the computer will work is if I uninstall the nVidia Driver through Safe Mode and then install the Standard Driver.

The computer works fine with the standard driver. I have tried every driver from nVidia for this Card and I have scanned my computer with every known program there is. I have used Msconfig to disable everything one at a time to try and find the problem. Nothing works.

The only thing I can think of is that the Video Card is bad? But why would it work with the Standard Driver? Is it because the nVidia Driver pushes the card harder then the standard driver, and because the card is defective it can't handle it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is this a know issue; I have contacted HP and they are no help. I am currently looking for my receipt but I think I am out of Warranty.

    HP dv9339
    Vista 32
    nVidia Geforce Go 7600

    Thanks.

By "standard driver", are you referring to a stock HP driver or the native Windows generic driver?

Thanks for responding R4000; when going into device manager it says that the driver is from Microsoft (Standard VGA Graphics Adapter 6.0.6000.16386)

Have you tried running the recovery discs to see if this cures the driver irregularities? If it does not, I'm guessing the gpu is failing......

EDIT: As an afterthought, do you have time to check out the display settings with the nvidia drivers before it goes wonky? Maybe the screen refresh is setting itself too high?

I really appreciate all of your help R4000. Unfortunately I don't have Recovery Discs; they didn't come with the computer. I was suppose to make them when I got the computer. I thought, "I will never need these" so I never made them. IDIOT!

Is there any way I can get them from HP?

As far as the refresh rate; I can't get that far to check the settings. The screen goes blank right before I get to where I would log in.

Well that isn't going to work; it seems it only reinstalls some of the programs that came with the computer.

Have you checked that your model isnt in the HP recall/extended warranty page?

Failing video cards is one of the symptoms.

Other than that try using driversweeper in safe mode and using www.laptopvideo2go.com drivers

Thanks for the reply FlipFire, I did use Driversweeper and also used Laptopvideo driver; did the whole change .ini file thing. The drivers installed and when I rebooted the computer the screen went blank as usual.

I just got off the phone with HP, my warranty is up in 2 days; talk about luck. They are sending me Recovery Discs out because I was too ignorant to make them when it clearly told me too when I opened the box. I did find where I can use the Recovery Manager to Recover the computer but for some reason my Recovery Partition has been deleted.

Anyway, if the Recovery doesn't work, they are going to take it in for repair. I extended my Warranty.

    Thanks to you and R4000.
