Hi, I'm heading off to college this fall as an architecture major. I've been researching quite a bit on a laptop in the $1500 range. I've found the HP dv9000t fits my needs quite well. I was simply wondering (since I've heard on this forum that there is no performance boost from the 512MB variant) if I should upgrade to the 512MB model (as I haven't ordered it yet)?
I do some gaming (CivIV, Black and White 2, Empire at War) but a majority of the time I will need this laptop for presentation and portfolio design (Photshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and especially 3D building modelling (AutoCAD, Viz, 3DSMax, ADT, RevIt, and SketchUp). So, can the card actually utilize the 512MB available for these graphic intensive programs or should I save some cash and keep the 256MB variant?
Thanks for any help.

The 512mb will not yield any performance improvement over the 256mb due to the fact that the 7600 is not powerful enough to use more than 256mb of video ram.

well if you read the forums for that then you would know that it cant utilize the 512MB, only the 256
so dont bother really -

for imaging, graphics card has nothing to do with it
3D modelling, perhaps but i think a quadro card is more effective than a geforce
it cant use that amount cuz it just isnt capable of using it in any situation
maybe spend the money on a CPU upgrade, better than wasting money on a 512 version that will never use that much -
ati is much better in 3ds max/Viz directx than nvidia...
when you want cad/cam .. and can't afford a firegl/quadro... get a radeon... you'll prolly be able to mod it to a firegl too....
