I didn't see any references to it here (sorry if I missed it) but Nvidia now provides video drivers for laptops directly from their site. Before, you had to go to the HP site or one of the sites like laptoptogo. HP was always way behind on driver releases for any laptop that was not a current model, so this is good news. Here is the story:

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4742

Here is the link to the driver page on Nvidia's site:

    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Edit: If you can't get a good driver from that link, go here:

They speeded up the fan on my machine.. too annoying especially when opening it up from sleep.. totally cold and the fans would roar for several minutes.. I rolled the drivers back to the HP which IMO do a better job managing the fans and temp.. They never go over 60c on my machine and average around 55C or less.

Wow, I wouldn't think video drivers should have anything to do with that. BIOS updates, yes. Nvidia motherboard chipset updates, maybe. Are you sure you didn't update something other than video drivers?

I just updated mine on my HDX and it works awesome....5-10 frames better on Fallout 3. Fans run exactly the same. Blu-ray functions great too. Way to go Nvidia!!

No they were definitely the nvidia 179.28 drivers. I might try them again later.. but I rolled it back to HP's 7.15.11.7432 to see if it would calm down the fans and it did.. Makes no sense I know.

They still don't have all the drivers (GO 7150 for example) on their site, it looks like its dedicated cards only. That not withstanding I just download them and run driverheaven's mobility modder on them to fix the INFs and install...

This is good, at least NVidia provide notebook driver officially.

hrm, 179.28 seemed to reduce my gfx performance, at least according to WEI. the aero assessment dropped from 4.8 to 4.7 upon updating from stock driver. then again, WEI is not a very good benchmark, so i dunno. :/

If you want/need the latest drivers to work just download that and the latest driver package for a similar card (I used the 7XXX GO driver package) and run it, it modifies the INF files with the information for your card and works great on most releases. I used it for my 7150GO without any issues, the physx support even seems to work as my TK55/7150GO machine outscores my G50 in 3dmark03 CPU tests.

Funny you mentioned it; I posted in the other thread under gaming and graphics that I installed the new drivers and my graphics WEI went from 3.1 to 3.4 (Vista Home Premium SP1, original HP drivers were like 167.xx) although, as you noted, WEI not the best benchmark.

You can use PhysX acceleration in the 7-series? What driver did you install? I used both the modder tool and LV2Go's inf for 179.28. :D

Well I'm not SURE that physx works, but it did install the physx driver and the CPU test scores were to me impossibly high for a TK-55 when compared to the T3200 (it scored substantially lower, I know AMD does still have some tests it does well at, but I don't think it'd be that much faster than a T3200) but I could well be wrong, I don't think the 7150 is SUPPOSED to support physx at all.

PhysX only works in 8-series and higher GPU's, unless you have a separate PhysX accelerator. Aegia used to provide these...it was an option on my Dell XPS series for instance. I don't think a machine with a 7150 would even provide this option. You probably did get higher scores simply due to the driver, but I don't even think 3Dmark03 was configured to detect PhysX. Could be wrong on that one though, been so long since I used it.

is it safe to use the generic nvidia drivers for HP integrated geforce? I am tempted to get the newest driver for my 9200M GS from nvidia, or should I just get it from HP...?

right now there is very limited driver options with the default drivers

did you notice an improvement updating to the latest hp drivers? I see some were released in Nov, mine are currently the previous version. I have heard of some getting a slight decrease in performance, but the current options with my drivers are really lacking

I'm going to test these nvidia drivers tonight on my 9600M GT. I'll post 3dmark06 scores after testing and see if there's any increase in fps in GTA 4.

just tested the new drivers. maaaaybe about an extra 2 fps, but nothin spectacular. bluray plays, but im a bit pissed off.

i got bluray for the first time at christmas, and played it for the first time earlier (before and after the update). the frame rate on a 9200 is shocking. it judders along at times, and theres white speckles like a layer of white noise over the top the whole time its playing. really not happy. im calling currys tomorrow to see if they will replace it to the spec they said it was (on their site and in the shop it said 9300, but on the computer and the box it says 9200 gs). not much, but im not happy.

however, ive been measuring my temps, and at idle it runs at 30*C, and under load (2 hours CoD2/4 gaming) only goes up to a max of 46*C. seems strange it doesnt heat up. no cooler, but its always been stacked 2 DVD boxes high.
i dont want to overclock it unless currys give me permission so i dont lose my warranty. i need it since im at uni, and no computer would mean disaster.

hey roosta, thanks for the updates.

so if I am using the default HP drivers (may), you recommend I upgrade to the newest HP drivers (november) or the newest nvidia ones?

for some reason when I run PCMARK05 it won't give me a score... also when I look in my device manager I just have a generic monitor, I'm wondering if newer video card drivers would help.

I also have very few options in my nvidia control panel (no temp monitor) and also it isn't in english because I'm living in europe, but it doesnt give me an option to change it.

what do you monitor temps with? i've had a BAD experience with using my old XP software with vista so I'm reluctant to just start installing programs... (alcohol 120)

the new HP drivers are definately better than the May ones, the nvidia ones slightly more so, but not dramaticly. i dont know about the stability of the nvidia beta drivers, but the HP ones are fine.
when you download the new drivers from HP it doesnt give you a language option, but the Nvidia drivers give you several options. that might sway you a bit.
i measure temps with HWmonitor. gives you max, min and current temps for each sensor.
