So the DV5t is pending on the new Montevina (Centrino 2 release) due July 14. The DV5t is supposed to have the Nvidia Geforce 9600GT GPU. Could this be the Dell XPS M1530 killer? How many of you are waiting to buy this laptop? Discuss your ideas.

I dunno - M1530 killer is a bold statement - the M1530 is one nice lappie.
Remains to be seen if HP will actually put in a decent discrete graphics card.
I know what *I* am wishing for:
dv2800t-size notebook, T9300,4GB RAM, 160GB 7200RPM drive, 256/512MB 8600M GT-class graphics, 802.11a/b/g/BT, DVD-RW, all wrapped up in that nice 14.1" package. Keep it around $1000, and I'm game. I don't need any funny paint schemes, no alien heads, no LED's on the top cover, no little GamingLCD's on the keyboard. Just gimme substance, at a good price.
Of course, if the dv5t actually has the 9600GT, well, I might have to inch up (literally) to the 15.4"!
T -
Will HP have this pc available for pre order before the July 14th intel release like other manufacturers? Im personally ready to order this once they give the go signal.
I was going with either the Apple Mac Book Pro 15.4 inch vs the DV5t although Apple charges so much more just for the better looks so i'm weighing more on the HP DV5t for better performance.
Anyone have an idea on the exact availability of this? Asus and even Sony FW has been released with the new intel processors.... -

The dv7t is currently the only consumer model that offers the GeForce 9600M GT (512 MB dedicated). As an example, take a look at the dv7-1040em specifications.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...9256&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN -
That's probably the starting price, the cheapest settings for the dv5. Because having the 9200M GS is just pathetic- even the current generations use the 8400M GS.
-
I do think HP is really going to offer the 9200M GS as the dv5t's highest possible graphics option. The base option will be the Intel GMA X4500, which the pre-customized dv5-1000us will have.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01486884&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en -
But that's even worse than the current generation's options. At least provide us with the 9300M GS. If you aren't going to improve the specs, just include the same specs with a fancier name...

Does the new laptop has LED backlit display?
-
@MCAP61: Interesting review. Now I am not sure if what I had said before is true. Maybe HP will offer three graphics options for the customizable dv5t: the Intel GMA X4500, the GeForce 9200M GS, and the GeForce 9600M GT.
Also in the laptopmag review, the specifications in the notebook they reviewed had three USB ports. Isn't it supposed to be four?
I guess we'll just have to wait and see when HP officially releases them. -
According to the specs HP have given us, the HP dv5t will have both the 9200GS and 9600GT as options, but whether US consumers will get the 9600GT I'm not sure.
-
-
The initial specs reported by a couple of website say yes, at least for the dv4t.
-
yea if the dv4t has LED, why not the dv5? if it does, then i'm buying an HP. if it doesn't, i have to reconsider.
and will they be available this month? -
and what is this? laptop mag. says it weighs 6.4 lbs? that's insane, i thought it was going to be 5.8??
-
FYI - Circuit City's HP Pavilion dv5-1002us webpage is now live: LINK

what's the official weight in lbs on these guys? on the laptop mag site it said 6+ lbs!
and i dont understand why no lcd... and the battery probably is going to blow too right? -
Also has anyone seen the 3dmark06 score on the dv5t. It is 3,900 with the 9600GT. Since this is a new card, will future drivers help improve this score?? -
Well, according to the first-looks review here, the HD 3200 scores roughly the same as the 8400M GS. And that's not bad at all, considering it's an IGP. The only let down on the dv5z is the processor, as MCAP61 said. wPrime's 32m test took like 39-40 seconds to complete, when compared to the Intel processors which are pretty old that are scoring 37's.

So a guy with an HP polo came to my work today. So i had to ask him when the dv5t is going to be released. He said, "I'm not supposed to say but dont be surprised if the release was to be on July 14th (cough, cough)." July 14th enough said. It's almost here.
Also I cant decide between this and the Dell XPS m1530? Which one should i pick? -
the dv5 (intel) doesn't have a LED? idk, but i dont think it does, so that's a let down. it's also rather thick compared to the dell. i think i'll have to look at these new dv5 series laptops once we get the amd version in first at best buy. who knows though. -
E.G You are comparing two cars, one v12, and one your typical family sedan. On your city streets, they are equal, since the roads are short and have alot of traffic and hardly require any real power. However, on the racetrack or motorway, the v12 car will undoubtedly take the lead. The V12 car has more POTENTIAL. One drops out at 100km/h, whereas the other can go up to 200km/h. -
What I personally want is faster graphics without a huge premium and I believe the new HP DV5z series will deliver.
YennoX, I respect your point of view and in no way trying to pick a fight. -
I've heard rumours that hp won't be offering the higher resolution screens and built in tv tuners, as were initialy announced. Does anyone know if this is true?
I know they aren't an option with the DV5z, but maybe its just because the AMD models are at the lower spec models?
I will probably get one of these reguardless, although the better screen and tv tuner sweetened the deal. As long as HP keep the 9600 GT graphics card I will almost definately be buying one of these. -
try 9600GT
-
-
The Hp according to laptop mag is going to cost arroung $1500 list price. This configuration included a 9x Penryn processer, Montevina (Centrino 2) chipset, Nvidia 9600GT and others.

I was at Frys in Renton, wa on July 3rd and they had the DV5t in stock. I was shocked to see it because I saw two similar laptops right next to each other one being the DV5z so I figured the other was the same thing. The DV5t was a 2ghz and using the intel intergrated graphics. 802.11 ABGN, 250gb hd,4gigs ram, and Vista Home Premium 64bit. The price they had was 1099.99 and I would have bought it but I don't like the intergrated graphics. The exact model number was HP DV5-1000US missing the t for some reason. I do have one crappy pic of it but I am at work and can't get to image shack to post it up. Very nice looking laptop but I don't like the keys they are very slippery and the track pad is very sticky and for some reason is mirrored. No battery was in the laptop but it didn't seem to heavy and the screen was very nice. Vista ran dog slow for some reason I will blame it on the idiots at Frys and it being a display model.
-
Hm... I am right next to Fry's in Renton, so I might go to check it out, but if you are pulling our legs...!!!
-
Hi all,
I was pleased to find two new models at Fry's: The HP dv5-1002us for $1049.99 and Compaq CQ50-110US for $649.99 after mail-in-rebate.
HP dv5-1002us Lavalys Everest Ultimate report in PDF format:

The Everest report for the new nVidia GeForce 8200M G based Compaq CQ50-110US:
http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/780a733169_0.4MB
I'm pleased to say that both performed admirably playing HD clips I captured with my off-the-air tuner card and playing the incredibly fun demo of FlatOut 2 at max resolution (1280X800) with all options turned on except AA.
I was pleased to find both systems were cool to the touch. The new HP looks super cool in person. It looks metallic and shiny. The Compaq looks WAY better than the previous models.
I was surprised to discover that neither units came with Firewire ports. Strange, but okay... -
i'm at a best buy store. i've been watching for the DV5 series for some time now. and when i saw we were unloading them off a truck i ran to the back and grabbed one and immediately put it on display!!
the models we have are:
dv5-1002
dv5-1004
i looked at the specs on one real quick, and noticed there was no difference besides one was 64 bit with 4gb of ram, and the other was 32bit and 3gb ram.
my review: i've been debating between the dv5 series, dell xps 1530, and apple's macbook pro. although i'd be purchasing the intel version, i saw that this laptop was very attractive. the no frame idea is very cool and works well with the webcam, making the screen flat. the keys felt and looked good, not too different from the old dv6000's. the media buttons at the top are cool when they disappear. the speakers aren't that bad, but there's no improvements from the older models.
my coworkers knew nothing about this, however i did. one argued that it looked like toshiba's satellite's with the glossy case. another argued it was a apple with the lit up logo. and i think it's a dell since it is lighter (more on that in a second.) however every1 agreed that the e-sata and usb combination was a very very good idea on HP's part.
one last thing: the glossy. the entire case is one big trap for fingerprints. now this idk, is there a way to reduce this with a cover? or over time does the oil from your hand reduce the fingerprints? fingerprints appeared on the outside case, by the keyboard (but not the keys.) by the media buttons, and even the touchpad was a deathtrap for fingerprints. any1 have any ideas?
also, the physical dimensions of it. it didnt feel like the 5.8 lbs they claimed. felt more like the 6.29 lbs of the older models. also these laptops are thicker than the old dv6000 series. our stuff is all locked down, and i didn't think about it until i locked it in that i wanted to see the physical dimensions. so if anyone has noticed that too, it'd be somethan i'm interested in. the only reason i like the dv5's is because they weigh about the same as the dell xps 1530's. so yea, in conclusion.... i have something cool to look at while i'm dealing with boring customers wanting to buy the $400 compaq. -
hmm... that fingerprint will make me stay away from otherwise good laptop. I had FZ in silver and surface was great at not showing any fingerprints... but I don't think I will be able to live with a laptop that would attract fingerprints
-
Just in case anyone cares, there's specs available for two dv5-t on Hp's Portuguese page.

I was text chatting with HP today and asked when the dv5t was coming out. I was told July 15, 2008. Awesome!
-
Also, so far the UK preconfigs are pretty disappointing.

I just hope they add some more when they do release them. -
1 or 2 or more days to go? who really knows...
-
I took a look at DV5 today at bestbuy and honestly, I like the old design better. The new casing is not as attractive and the flat glassy screen doesn't do much for me. The keyboard and the mouse buttons are better though.
-
The NDA is lifted tomorrow at 6am Pacific, so its likely to be avail after that point, not before...
-
Hm, I'm pretty interested in this laptop. The one they had in that review had some nice specs. If it has the 9600, then I'm game for it because I don't think I could order a refreshed XPS in time for university (since I want a week or so minimum to make sure its okay). HP and Asus new models are going to have to go head to head for my money
-

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the info so far.
Does anyone know if/when HP will be releasing new HP Imprints or colours?
I took a look at the dv5z at Best Buy this weekend and I'm not a big fan of the black colour.
What was the turnaround time for HP to release "Special Editions" last time?
Thanks! -
The dv5t is NOW OFFICIALLY out on the HP Shopping website!
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...me=dv5t_series
Edit: See here for all the available links to the new models - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=272730 -
Is the 9600gt Hp offers a DDR2 or DDR3 version, anyone know?
-
Apparently we can't get the TV tuner!? I called and they said they haven't come out with that part yet but it is built in. The dv5z doesn't have the tuner yet either. I might just say screw it since my config has got me up to 2g! This puppy is expensive but I figure the price protection for 21 days will save me some. Should come down.
