Hi all.
I came here when buying my HP DV4000, but now I have a problem with my Pavilion desktop computer.
I ran the HP system recovery program where it does a quick format of the data portion of my HD and the computer still has bugs.
Basically as soon as it boots, it reports a major error and then shuts down and reboots again and again.
Being that HP doesn't give you a windows CD because they have the OS on a partitioned section of the HD, what do you think is the best solution.
Seems to me it would be best to format the whole drive and then install windows fresh. I suppose this would mean I need to purchase a new copy though?

well you can't install of a partition, as far as I know. I don't see how that would work... How many memory "sticks" do you have in it? If you ahve more than one, pull one of them out and boot off just one stick. If it still keeps rebooting, try the other. The issue kinda sounds like a bad memory problem.
So you have NO restore CD at all? You might want to contact them and get them to ship you one. Or better yet if you have a friend who has one, then use that. It doent matter since you have your own CD KEY for the Pavalion that you own. You won't be taking their copy liscensing, so don't worrie. Just make sure that if you have XP home that you get a XP home cd. (vise versa) -
if the hard drive is bad, perhaps hp can send you some recovery disks
