Ok, I have a Compaq Presario F572US that came with 1GB of RAM. I recently installed 2GB of RAM into it and I have encountered a peculiar problem(s).

First - The computer works much faster. The new RAM is being used.

However, since installing the new RAM, even though I'm connected to the internet, the computer tells me the server execution failed...

When I look under properties of My computer it says the Processor and RAM is 'not available'

Lastly, my phone will no longer sync with my laptop and the computer tells me I have never had anything synced to it...

Other than that, the computer works flawlessly...

    Any insights? Thanks!

EDIT: Also, when I go to the task manager and then the performance tab, the computer shows that I have 1918MB of Physical Memory. So, it is recognizing it...

Have you tried switching back to the 1 GB? I'd be interested to see if it was just a massively coincidental timing with some other problem or if the RAM really has caused the issue.

Tell us how it goes after you put back in the 1GB, then we can help out further depending on the results.

Don't be stupid. If you're in class (assuming college) you are probably paying a ton of money for an education, so stop wasting your time on this web site and pay attention. If you're in high school, then that goes just as well.

OK, now that you're out of class:
    • Make sure you didn't knock anything loose when you replaced the RAM
    • Make sure you SHUT DOWN the computer when you do this, sleep and hibernate will cause damage to the computer.
    • Run a memtest on the new RAM, see the guide in my sig.

I'm in seminary...during a break when I type...believe me, I know how much I'm paying for this education...

I'm pretty sure I didn't 'knock' anything lose. I don't even think there is a way to 'knock' anything lose installing RAM on this laptop...

I always shut down, I'm not an idiot :)

I'll run a memtest when I get home. Thanks for the advice.

    Alrighty -

I put the original RAM back in, and it still did the same thing. And it wouldn't let my wife sign into her profile name...

So, I did the easiest thing to fix problems. Reformatted and reinstalled Vista.

Everything works like a charm now :).

Orev - Thanks for the advice, and I ended up using your guide on doing a clean install of Windows Vista and it worked like a charm :)

    Now, back to Hebrew......
