I work with someone that's having a strange problem with his new HP 8510w laptop and his hp6122C printer.
When he prints anything, the printer just spits out blank sheets. Even when I tried printing a Test Page from the properties window, the same thing happens.
He is running XP with SP2.
We reloaded the driver twice and tried both the parallel and USB ports with the same results. He did get the "driver not signed ..." error diring the load.
The really strange part is that I had him share his printer and I can print fine to it from my laptop over the network thru his laptop. (Mine's an IBM T60). So that tells me the hardware is good. He had no trouble with the printer and his old laptop which was also an HP.
I tried loggin into his laptop just to check if it was only his account that was messed up but I get the same result logged in as he does.
Anyone got some new ideas to try?![]()

Hp sent me the following work around that fixed the problem. Basically they told me to install the drivers for a hp deskjet 990c instead.
Dear Brian,
I am Anthony from HP Chat Support Team.
This email is a follow-up to our recent Chat interaction.
I would like to provide a resolution to the issue which we were
troubleshooting in the chat session.
As we could not able to continue the chat session due to technical problems I am providing the trouble shooting steps.
Step 1: please perform the below steps to print hardware self test page.
1 Turn the printer on.
2 Load paper in tray
3 Press and hold the POWER button until Step six.
4 Press the ( X Symbol) CANCEL button eight times.
5 Press the (down arrow) RESUME button four times.
6 Release the POWER button.
It will print a test page , check color printed or not. if printed go to step 2 if not go to step 3
step 2 : As a work around install the built in drivers hp deskjet 990c.
1. Click Start--> Control Panel--> Printers and other hardware--> Printers and Faxes
2. Under Printer Tasks, click Add Printer.
3. Click Next on the first Add Printer Wizard window.
4. Select only "Local Printer" option and click "Next". Make sure to uncheck "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer" option".
5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select the LPT port or LPT1 port and click Next.
6. Under the Manufacturers list, select HP.
7. Under the Printers list, select the HP Deskjet 990c printer and click Next.
8. Under Do you want to use this printer as the default printer? select "Yes" and click Next.
9. When asked to print a test page, select "Yes", then Finish.

Step 3: Please clean the contacts of the cartridges and the printer manually.
Please open the below link and perform the cleaning instructions.
