I just bought this laptop, it's my first laptop. It came with a printer, dvd remote, ear buds, backpack for 850.00
It has it's share of bloatware, but I plan to reinstall vista from the directions that are available here. My question is on the restart time. I have timed it. It takes 2m 40s to restart. To me that's a long time. Also it has the 6150 nvidia graphics chip. I am not a hardcore gamer, but I do like Diablo II and Guild Wars. Will I be able to play them? I haven't even tried to install them yet.
One more thing, I thought when I bought it that it had a lightscribe drive, but it doesn't. The salesman sold me the lightscribe discs, can I use those? They were a little pricer and I have thought about taking them back, but I already opened them.
Here are my specks.

Lightscribe burners has the lightscribe logo. You can use the lightscribe DVDs as regular discs, just can't burn images on the top side of the disc.
Long startups are probably caused by too many junk programs loading. If you do a clean Vista install it will also take a while to load but will improve with time due to it's doing HD management. It will also shutdown longer for a while.
Pricewise it's a good deal. Printers are cheap but inks are expensive. If you felt that you were misinformed regarding the Lightscribe then you can probably return it within the policy and inform them that the salesperson misrepresented the unit's features. They probably won't hassle you about it. -
What exact model number do you have? dv6000 is the series name. Then look it up on the HP site. That will tell you the exact specifications for your machine. I think HP includes Lightscribe on just about every laptop it makes. Have you looked at the decals on the side of the drive to see if it has a lightscribe decal?

You're boot-up time is about average for Vista. My Compaq laptop takes about the same amount of time from when I press the power button till all the icons have loaded in the system tray. It helps to have at least 2GB of RAM and clean out all the bloatware (you're doing one better by reformatting). That helped my laptop go from about 4 minutes to 2 1/2.
