    I bought an dv6700t with vista ultimate and the sticker on the bottom is wearing off, should there be a problem. It is the sticker with the product code and product key. I called hp and asked for a new sticker, does anyone else have this problem. I can attach a picture of the sticker. (iv had the comp for 5 days as of today 06/06/08). Thanks Ivan

For a second i thought u meant the sticker on the top cover.

Just peel the sticker off properly and keep it at a safe place. Take a photo or write it down for backup

At least if your notebook gets stolen, they wont be able to do a clean install easily.

yeah, Microsoft started using non laminated stickers couple of years ago. However, the product ID's use a different more durable ink, so everything else on the sticker will vanish quickly while your product key and the bar code above it will be visible. Its a crappy decision but that's what it is.

Its already starting to wear out on my week old tx2500.

Actually dont take it off, it might somehow void your warranty when you send it in for repairs.

Aslong as you have the keys and numbers written down youll be fine. I highly suggest you use orev's ABR tool (activation backup and restore) to save your activation/serial code.

Doesn't it automatically activate when you use recovery drive/disc?

Yes, but I personally like to have all documentation with me, I mean back in the day if you did not have the sticker or it was worn out your windows was illegal.

You don't really need that product code if you have recovery discs from HP as those are pre-activated.
The sticker cannot be removed, as the "hole" is purposely made so you can't remove it and transfer it to another machine. Blame Microsoft.

Thats exactly what I got under my laptop.....
I thought it was the heat causing the damage to sticker paper. I just hope it wont vanish one day. But seriously, can you tell why it goes thin around those silver lines??
