Even with some of the issues I still really want an Envy 15, and was about to order a spec'd out I5 with dual SSD. But I'm hesitant mainly b/c we're going to see an updated Envy 15 soon (that hopefully will have backlit key's, maybe e2e etc, fixed bezel issues...). So obviously hate to spend that amount of money and end up being right out of the exchange period and they announce the new 15 lol.
I can get a good deal on an i5 dual ssd 15 etc for about $1500 maybe little less, but its a factory refurb (its a gen 2 with the 5830). Being some of the issues people have had I'm worried there was a good reason this was returned to be fixed, but possibility it may have just been sent back for whatever reason durring the 21 day period if the customer maybe just didn't want it and it was fine.
Or locally I can get a Macbook Pro 17, 2009 with 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo, 500gb 7200 rpm drive, Dual video cards (9400M and 9600M GT 512MB), matte screen, 4gb ram, some good programs including paralells which I would need for some of my trading accounts. I can get it for about $800 and I think still udner warrenty, just sent him a question on that as said it still has months left on warrenty but expires this month, might have miswrote that.
I need a new laptop anyway and this would at least hold me over till the updated 15 comes out. This is also just for personal use, some business etc, I don't do any graphic designing or video editing that I know both excell at. I'm still a windows guy but don't mind osx, I think the macbook deal is too hard to pass up.

If you are just a personal use/business notebook kind of guy, do not get an Envy 15.
You do not need the power of a 5830 Graphics card to browse the internet. Even games a few years old would run on the MBP I am sure.
I'd go with the MBP simply for that reason. The price difference you are seeing is for performance, why pay it if you don't need it? -
I can pry sell this macbook at a profit anyway, as it should be going for more, he just has no use for it right now. -
That macbook is a STEAL of a price. I would jump on it in a heartbeat.

For a Macbook, that offer you have is awesome. Definitely get it and if you like the refresh of the Envy 15 sell it.
-
Naah, just get the Envy 15.
... and send me the email address of the guy with that MBP17!

$800? This is steal, if the macbook pro is running w/o problem .

Yeh that $800 one was a scam, all of a sudden he was in "Spain" and sent me instructions on how to purchase through DHL Express as apparently they act as an escrow/third party, true or not I was like f' that. I ended up getting an 2009 macbook pro 13, 2.53ghz processor, 4gb mem, 500gb hard drive etc. Offered the guy 1K cash and he took it, excellent condition not a scratch or mark and still under warranty but I'll still get the apple extended care since you can find that pretty cheap online. This thing was barely used as he had another that was spec'd out better.
All I gotta say is Craigslist is filled with baggery, even the guy I bought it from said he had been getting non stop calls and emails from bag scammers.
I hope HP updates the Envy 15, as I'll still add that especially with dual ssd as hp gives you a hell of a deal when included. I looked into adding an ssd to this Mac and it was retardedly expensive lol. I'm loving this 13 though, its so solid and high quality. I've never understood the complaints on OS systems, i have no problem using os/x and windows, some people make it sound like if you go to os/x from windows you'll feel like you have half a brain trying to figure stuff out, I've had no issues playing around and getting this setup. -
Put one in yourself. Never buy ram/hard drive from Apple. Unless getting scammed in your ideal of a fun day.
Ok, what would you do, refurbed Envy 15 or used Macbook Pro 17"????
