I have read thread after thread asking what are the normal operating temps for C2D, Turion and "Dual Core" processors. Some say idle at 50c is fine and some are saying 50c is too high.

What are the normal operating temps for the following at idle (IDL), multitasking (MLTS) and game play (GMPL) for the following:

    Chip type ..................IDL ..................MLTS ......................GMPL

    Turion TL

    Turion TK

    C2D T5xxx

    C2D T7xxx

    Dual Core T2xxx

    Dual Core T23xx

    Celeron

Please clarify values to clear up the confusion.

It's going to be highly dependent on what computer you have. My Asus burns like a wildfire, but all the components are safe. In general, something's wrong when the CPU temp hits >80 and the GPU temp hits >100.

I did mine under the following conditions, all with lid closed, sitting on my desk, ambient temperature around 18C. I took the highest of the two core temperatures. Turion 64 X2 TL-56 in a DV6000Z with integrated GeForce 6150 graphics, running Vista Premium, but no Aero.

    IDLE - 51C.
800MHz, 0.8V, just browsing internet and using temp monitoring software.

    MULTITASKING - 57C
1800MHz, 1.1V, browsing internet, compressing files, searching for files, playing MP3's, photoshopping, using MS streets and trips.

    GAMING - 54C
    1800MHz, 1.1V, playing BF1942 at 1024x768. Surprisingly lower than I expected.

I think the DV6000Z cooling system does a good job getting rid of the heat and keeping the temperature consistently low at around 55C no matter what. Of course, it is a little cool in here, so my results might be a little less than average.

Plugged in: 47/57 Deg c with light tasks.
