Hey guys, so HP will be updating the Envy17 with Intel's new Core CPUs (Sandy Bridge). Do you think it'll be possible to slip one in the Envy 14? Is the CPU slotted or soldered?

I'm pretty sure the sandy bridge processors require a new socket.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that they would bump up one envy product and leave the other one behind.

The CPU is on a socket (Socket 988 to be exact), so you can replace it, but not for a Sandy Bridge. Not only was the Envy 14 designed to work with Arrandale class CPUs (Nehalem architecture), but the new CPUs require different chipsets.

btw, I so envy your Radiance display (not avail when I bought my 14-1160se)

It's already been done, though. Ask the 13 and 15 folks.
