Hi, I've had this old dv4000 for almost 4 years now and it's had this overheating problem for pretty much the entire time. I've had to install a program called Notebook Hardware Control to slow the processor down so that the computer doesn't overheat and spontaneously shutdown.

I've tried calling HP, but they are no help. Does any body have anything that might be able to help me with this.

Btw, I've tried cleaning out the vents and using a notebook coller, and neither has been any help.

Have you tried taking it apart and replacing the thermal paste? If the notebook's body does not feel hot but temperatures report high, it means that the heatsink isn't properly secured to the chips.

I actually tried to do that and take it apart, but I didn't have the right screwdriver to open up the thermal cover. What I did do though was clean it out the best I could while I had it open, and it seems to be working fine now. About time too!

Thanks for your suggestion though, if it does start to do it again that's what I'll try.
