I just started having a problem with the 1.7ghz Pentium M in my antique laptop. I noticed that performance has tanked recently, and after a little investigation I found that its only running at 598.1mhz according to CPU-Z. Even under "My Computer" it shows up as "Pentium M 1.7ghz, 598Mhz".

I can't run the games I like any more because its slow, gets too hot, and crashes. I'm just trying to get another few months out of this and was wondering if anyone had any idea what would have made it change so drastically. Plugging it in doesn't affect it one way or the other. Thanks for the help.

it's probably clocking down from either overheating or just power saving. try running a notebook cooler + cleaning out the vents.
