The dv6000 I own had some known heating issues. I am already on the 2nd hard drive as I think the last one simply got fried. The laptop in general performs well. I am close to buying a new Sager gaming laptop but am thinking of holding off till early 2010. I'm a little worried about another overheating issue. Aside from work, every Sunday I stream NFL football at 720p. I live in Peru and only come to the US a couple times per year. I either need to buy a new laptop in the next month or likely hold off till April or so. What are your thoughts on my hardware temps? When I took this screen capture I had a couple java application open (my typical work environment) and was streaming 720p flash based video for over an hour. Are these temps OK?
EDIT: I should point out I now use a fan cooling pad since I replaced the hard drive. I also have some drivers from HP that supposedly addressed some of the heating issues.

As far as I can see those temps look pretty good, Nvidia GPU is running cool, 42*C on the HDD is nothing to worry about. 50*C on the CPU is a tad high but again nothing to worry about as these temps are under moderate load/the way you usually run it and not idle temps. The most important thing (because they are dropping like flies in lots of dv6000s) the Nvidia GPU. Yours looks fine (if you see 70s/80s its time to worry) and I can't specifically recall the 7400 being faulty (seen LOTS of 6150s and 7600/8600s). Cooling pad is a good idea, with any luck if things are running like this you should be able to stretch out your dv6000 till next year. Maybe you get something with an i7 in it by then.

Yup, temps look fine. Don't worry.

Thanks. That makes me a feel a lot better. The battery also died in this laptop so maybe I'll just replace that on my October trip. If I can hold off till April that till give me 3 years of life. I've had very bad luck with laptops so I think 3 years will be a record for me
