    Hello!

I've gathered the following information, and I ask purely from a theoretical standpoint. I don't plan flash anytime soon, nor I encourage anyone else to flash their laptop. But I thought this could be useful to someone else with more knowledge than me or more willing/eager to flash their Omen 15 2019, that could help to confirm or deny that this model can be given a higher power limit by turning it into a mobile version 115w instead of a max-q 90w.

    Model: Omen 15 DH0005LA
    CPU: I7-9750H
    GPU: RTX-2070 MAX-Q
    GPU Power limit: 90w
    Power adapter: 200w
CPU consumption during Cinebench r20 100%: 65w with undervolt -250 core -125 cache, average score 3050-3100, 70°C package temp, stable for several months with everyday use.

    1) Cooling solution - Heatsink

Looks similar to the one used with the Omen 17 (image by @DaMafiaGamer, thank you)

    2) temperature / performance sample in game

    • In light blue: CPU metrics/limits
    • In green: GPU metrics/limits
    • in yellow: power and temperature, both components. A little messy I know.

    Witcher 3 - 1080p Mix of High/ultra, no hairworks
    [IMG]
Control - 1080p Mix of medium/high, DLSS 2.0 quality mode
    [IMG]

This unit after undervolting with throttlestop and using OC scanner, can run quite cool and stable, the fans kick in when the GPU temp gets around 60°C and the CPU to 70°C (Omen Command Center in performance mode), and stays there for a whole gaming session of several hours, never seeing it going over 67-68°C and 75-78°C respectively. So I guess it is safe to assume that this model has thermal and power headroom = 90w GPU + around 35w CPU during mixed workload in game, power adapter 200w, (but don't know how much uses the battery, screen and mobo, and sadly don't have those wall outlet power consumption readers)

    3) GPU-Z - Nvidia Inspector reports

The VRAM is Samsung, which according to the common knowledge base are the best for OC. I pushed +999 mhz in afterburner to test stability using unigine heaven with no artifacts. Don't know if this is the most appropriate test but at least the scores remained the same: 2650-2700 - 107 avg fps

    3) VBIOS Comparison

    • This is my vbios (uploaded mine, but GPU-Z reported that this was the same, so rejected the upload):

    • Supposedly (unverified upload) from an Omen 17 CBXXXX series with a "mobile" 115w version:

Comparison using Pascal TDP tweaker for read only purposes:
    • Left 2070 max-q, right 2070 mobile

    4) inconsistencies? tin foil hat?

According to HP webpage, service manual for explicitly the Omen 15, and (please don't laugh :D) the sticker on my laptop, this model should have been shipped with a 2070 mobile vbios instead of a max-q:

That was a long post, sorry.

Any thoughts? Could this work? those extra 25w could mean anything in the long run?

Thanks for your time to read my ramblings.

It probably won't work. Max-q gpus have a built in protection that will force the gpu to run in safe mode and consequently have lower performance than stock when you flash a max-p vbios onto them.

Does the Omen have optimus or is it dgpu only? If its dgpu only, then a failed flash will result in a black screen. If its on optimus, you'll still have a working display even in the event of a failed flash so you can safely experiment with vbios flashing.

    Hello!

It has dgpu only with the igpu disabled via bios (can't change this) and Gsync panel, so yes, it will result in a black screen. because of that I started this thread with the warning.

well it's a shame. was worth asking for a more informed opinion.

    Thank you.

If someome is curious, i did installed all the bioses from techpowerup. The one from hp omen 17' with 115w worked with 115-125W without display port sience there is a difference 2dp vs 1dp. But frequency couldnt go futher than 1300mhz. So nothing to gain in this case. Thus it is big ashame, also i got bricked the gpu coz i check the one from Razer 100W but F10 not F50, it result black screen. But it was quite easy to recover. If some has an idea hoe to force this gpu max q f50 with 1 display port and 1 hdmi port to work with 120-125w would be nice to hear :)

    No, It doesn't work.

The 1350mhz you're seeing is the gpu running in safe mode. The power readings are falsely reported
