with heavy overclocking i got mine to 10300 on time spy, thermals could be better as well as battery life but overall its not bad. Gets a recommendation from me!

I'm considering getting this notebook. Can any of you tell me whether it comes with a 200W 2080 Super (Base clock 1560, boost 1740) or 150W (Base clock 1365, boost 1560) or somewhere in between?
@cope123abc @LightningB0lt44 @bigspin Your feedback would really help my decision

MIne is amazing! I went with the i9-10885H and 2080 Super 150w. Still holding Time Spy and Fire Strike #1 with my CPU. Everything is aswesome except the random split second spikes to 95-100c. I'm thinking of repasting and replacing the thermal pads. However its mostly around 80-85c during heavy ultra 4k gaming load.

Yes the Omen 17 is pretty awesome.

I am in 4th place for Firestrike overall score for a 9880H (Tyranuus)
    https://www.3dmark.com/newsearch#advanced?test=fs P&cpuId=2451&gpuId=&gpuCount=0&deviceType=ALL&memoryChannels=0&country=&scoreType=overallScore&hofMode=false&showInvalidResults=false&freeParams=

I realise 9880H's aren't THAT common, but still, 4th place! Given how locked down our BIOS etc are, I'll take that.

And 16th place out of all 9880H results in Firestrike Graphics score.

Unfortunately if I link it doesnt seem to keep the search parameters, but if you change them manually to 9880H, 1 CPU, Firestrike overall score... BOOM.

yes I'm undervolting a 9th gen but I also upped the power limits, can that be done on the 10th? maybe that helps with performance

Picked my Omen 17 up two days ago with an i7 10750 plus 2080 super GPU and so far I'm very pleased with it. It's a bit of a beast in terms of size. At first I was going to go for a thinner gaming laptop but after reading dozens of posts on how bad slim laptops are at thermal management, I decided to go for something a bit more substantial. With heavy gaming use the CPU cores do hit the low 80's with some peaks at 86-87 but I think that is acceptable for now. I use a Targus cooling pad which helps a little and HP have just released an update to the Command Center, it's now called Command hub and has a built in undervolt feature so I I'll be messing around with that and the performance profiles over the next day or so to see if I can come up with a workable combo.

I think the temps aren't too high but could be a bit better. I may also try a repaste at some point but don't really want to crack open my brand new laptop just yet.

Rocking some solid FPS numbers on Ultra settings in my favorite games though so very happy for now. For the price I paid for it on a Black Friday deal I think it's an absolute steal for this spec. Might try to pick up a couple of ray tracing enabled titles too over the next few days, just to see what all the fuss is about.

Guys, worth checking you've got the latest BIOS and the latest versions of the Omen control panel. They seem to have just added FAR more comprehensive keyboard lighting controls, and also auto/manual undervolting directly via the Omen software. (at least for my model, I can't vouch for 10 series CPUs)

I am happy with static lighting and my throttlestop solution, but if that stops working for some reason, its nice to have the option built in.

I've updated the BIOS and command center and yes it does let you do an auto or custom undervolt even on 10 series CPU's. Auto set it to a -0.070 undervolt so I tried custom\manual and have got it up to -0.120, any higher and I get occasional system crashes.

The laptop is still running a bit hot for my liking, I'm seeing occasional spikes to 91c on the CPU's even with the undervolt when running triple AAA title games on ultra settings. Funnily enough the GPU is fine in the low 70's range.

I may have to go for a repaste but I'm a bit reluctant to open up a brand new laptop. I have a 3 year HP care pack with mine, does opening up your laptop invalidate that in anyway?

I tried to flash a ROM file from an alienware area 51m r2, with the 2080 super 200 watt and it corrupted my vbios, still trying to repair it because I forgot to make a backup before, dell still didn't release the vbios for the r2, the 2080 with the 200 watt dell vbios give better 3d mark scores than the 2080 super with the 150 watt vbios, not much, less than 5%, I hope someone with the 2080 super give me his .ROM file from gpuz, or I'll can't repair my laptop

I have almost the same but with a i9. See signature. HP thermal paste is garbage. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is really good but after long gaming sessions at 80-85° it seems to thin out and then the spread between core temperatures grow. I'm now on Noctua HT-N2 and it's been great. Basically under 80° to max 85°c. Mine cost $3018 in July but it had a very slight nick on the lid and they gave me $318 back. Then I bought the 2TB NVMe .2 for $250. So $3000.
