Omen 17 RTX 2080

Hi guys I’m looking to purchase the HP omen with the RTX 2080 either with the 9750h or the 9880h.

There’s a sale currently in Australia where I can get the 9750h version with 32gb ram for about $2800 AUD and the 9880h for about $3500 AUD. Just wondering is there a huge difference in the performance ?
I will mostly be using this for training ML models and gaming.

Is the $700 difference worth it ?
How much performance difference between both CPUs

The 9880H demolished the 9750h in multi core performance although it may not be worth the $700 if your gaming, BUT, you said your going to be rendering, so you need the best cpu possible. Get the 9880h and rtx 2080 combo. You can’t go wrong.

 

I just got mine, and the cooling is good for the GPU but inadequate for the CPU out of the box: 100 C and thermal throttle galore. The i9 seems to accept quite the undervolt, -0.150 on mine with no issues (other than Oculus and Oculus only crashes for some reason). There are others here who have gotten great results from the repaste, I'm still debating whether I want to do that in the warranty period.
However, aside from the crappy factory paste, it's good that HP hasn't crippled this thing--it will happily run at 70W TDP, undervolted, in the low 90s, continuously. My Cinebench scores are double my old 4-core i7 so it does work properly, just not ideally.

 

If it crashes in oculus then it is not stable.

 

Repasting the CPU won't void your warranty. You might as well do the GPU while you're at it, assuming it's not too difficult to access.

Id happily swap with you if it isnt a max q version. I have done a lm repaste temps are in 72c max! with an all core turbo at 99% percent of the time 4.1-4.3ghz depending on the app being used (locked at 4ghz all the time). down clocks to 3.7 in super intensive cpu use. i get 2100mhz on the gpu! with a 400mhz memory overclock and the 2100 is curved msi afterburner profile maintains 2010 lowest clock. temps stay around 66-70 max (in prolonged use over 1hr).i have the 144hz screen. 1TB SSD 2TB NVME (1tBx2 raid 0) 16gb Ram. CPU undervolted .150mv! stable mine was purchased feb 17 2020. Cinebench 20 score is close to 3100! firestrike very close to 21000 i wanted the 9880h but hp did not have in stock told me to wait 1 month before they could produce one. i needed it for work so i bought the 9750h one. i do game alot though.yet i dont know an honest and safe way to swap if you wanted to do it lol
