On average, how long will it take before an nVidia GPU fails?

Just posing this question, as this is the first and only HP notebook I have ever owned. Given I'll be taking this to school under the elements, how long on average can I see this GPU lasting? And if it dies under warranty, will HP fix it for sure?

Only the 8400m and 8600m are known to fail. You should be fine. :)

8*00M series usually failed in 1-1,5 years. If the OP is unlucky and the cooling gets too clogged with dust, I would estimate 2-3 years.

your forgetting about the old integrated 6150s. If you look at the service enhancement website you will see most of the models covered have 6150 graphics. Also, even thought they are known to have trouble the newer dv*500 series notebooks with 8400 and 8600 GPUs are not under the service enhancement. To the OP: Your G105 IIRC is based off of the old 9300 chipset which I have never heard to be known for trouble, IIRC the 9300 is broadly comparable to the HD3200 (I think the 3200 is a shade faster but I have also seen some of the 3200s get a bit hot, especially in the small tx2500 models) so as long as you take care of it (keep it dust free ect) theres no reason to suspect it will be any worse than your average GPU.

My dv9543cl initially failed after 11 months and then after 10 months and then it failed soon after it was repaired (it had an 8600m GS)
HP finally replaced it but I was lucky since I had a 2 year costco warranty.

Anyway, I think yours should be fine for longer than that (since its not one of the affected GPUs)
