A few of our nc6400's show an on screen volume meter when you change the volume or hit the mute button. A few others do not, and I can't figure out what the difference is? No one has hacked anything to get this to display, it just works but not on every unit. What HP utility is doing this?
All of the units have the latest Quick Launch software installed.

I don't think this is a 6400 only problem on my 8430 the volume icon and others only appear when they want to.
-
Doh! I was thinking that it was supposed NOT not to have that feature, cos mine didn't ever show it.
-
We also have a nc8430 and they don't show up on it either.
-
nor the NX9420's...no on-screen volume or screen brightness shows on mine. I actually miss that feature...sniff...sniff...

I use to have that same problem, mines only showed when the notebook came out of stand-by. I went to HP online chat and they quickly gave me a link to download a patch. It worked fine, however when my notebook comes out of stand-by you see TWO on-screen volume meters!
-
OK where's the link/patch?

i have a NX9420 (got it yesterday)...and initially it wasnt showing the on screen sound...but when i installed the updates last night night i now have an onscreen sound meter.
before i thought it was stupid not to have this, but now i wish it wasnt there. When i am playing movies full screen, or SNES9X full screen and adjust the volume, it will force the program out of full screen mode and then show the meter. That is rather annoying to be honest...
as for the screen brightness nada...although i use the ambient light thingie -
Do you have Logitech's "SetPoint" application running? If yes, exit the utility and the brightness buttons should be back to work.

sorry i dont have logiteh's setpoint app running. Oh well, its really not a big deal for me...thanks though
