I just received my Envy 14 (1260SE). I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate that I own, and when on battery, I'm only getting 1 hour of battery life. Even on Power Saver. I downloaded a 3rd party battery meter, and it says 3 hours, which still isn't too long, but better than 1. However, Windows shuts down the PC when it's battery meter reads it's dead. What do I do? Thanks.

    Hi WhiskeyBent,

Have you contacted HP regarding the battery life? You mentioned you just received it so I assume this is a new notebook. If you need any assistance with contacting HP regarding your battery please email me your product and contact information to [email protected]. Please include in the subject line ATTN: Veronica-NBR.

You just received a year-old laptop? The first thing to check is whether or not you're on integrated graphics when you're on the battery - if you're using the GPU you'll get 50% or worse battery life. Still, one hour is quite low...

How do I check to see if I'm on integrated graphics? And yes, it was left-over at a local electronics store for a low price, so I bought it. I did a clean install and just downloaded the drivers off the HP website afterwards. I didn't download any ATI drivers, just the one Intel one they have listed under Graphics.

That's really weird that the support site wouldn't list the proper GPU drivers...

Download and install this: AMD and Intel Graphics Drivers for Microsoft Windows 7 HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Then use Catalyst Control Center (CCC) to ensure that you're on the Power-Saving GPU when you're on battery - there's a checkbox for automatic switching when you unplug.

If you want to update to a newer GPU driver thereafter, check out this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/582545-drivers-ati-5650-6630-hp-envy-14-a.html

And for the most updated drivers for your Envy, including many compatible drivers that HP couldn't be bothered to offer on their support site: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...xxx-dv5-2xxx-g32-cq32-envy-14-1xxx-intel.html

That was it! I found and was installing CCC when you posted this. I enabled switchable graphics and now I've jumped up to 5 hours of battery life. That is weird HP didn't have this driver on their site. Thanks!!

Basically the default Power Saving setting. I only use like 30-40% brightness, though. This is just what Windows is telling me. I haven't actually tested to see if I indeed get 5 hours.
