    Model: HP Pavilion DV6563CL
    C2D T7300 2.0 Ghz (still packs a punch after being 1 year old), 3GB RAM, 160GB HDD/7200 RPM, Multi-DVD, Vista SP1 32Bit...not LED backlight type...

Hi...Well, I did a couple of searches on the forums on how to clean the heatsink fan on my laptop. After 2 hours of trying to take apart my laptop (being careful, I guess) I got to the fan and heatsink. The heatsink was filled with dust that covered in-between the fins of the heatsink. This probably explained why I was getting cpu temperatures in the 170's (it's now down to the 110's after the clean)

After cleaning the heatsink and then some, I put everything back together but now I have two issues with the computer.

First..the lcd's backlight seems to be ...not working? The laptop lcd does get a picture, however you need like a flash light to see what's on the screen. Everything appears to be working, but I guess maybe something wrong with the lcd inverter?

Next, my keyboard...it appears that some buttons don't function while some do.

I tried opening up the laptop again and double make sure to see everything was connected in the correct location and well...I'm still having issues with the lcd blacklight and the weird keyboard issue.

For now, I have my laptop connect to my wireless keyboard and my 22inch lcd monitor (at home, I have my laptop connected to these two items ...easier to do homework when im not at campus).

So...what should I do? Should I buy a new lcd Inverter and keyboard off ebay, etc? I do have a 2 year warranty with HP (barely 1 year so far)...but would they care that I opened the computer already?

If it was only the backlight that was off I would say maybe the inverter but if you are having problems as well with the keyboard that I would say that there is more going on.

Can you turn the backlight off/on with the Fn key on your notebook? Also remove the keyboard connector and reconnect it.

Tried it...and it doesn't go bright. It's probably the inverter because the computer runs fine as normal. The keyboard, ..I'm going to take a third look at it because I think I found out what I did wrong there.

However...I noticed now that if I put the computer into stand-by...it actually shuts down the computer. I have the Vista preferences set to "go to sleep" if the sleep button is pressed.

This is odd. Otherwise, everything else works...DVD, touch sensitive buttons, speakers, power button, keypad with buttons, wifi switch,...well you get the picture. :D

Were you careful with the keyboard ZIF connector and LCD cable?

Did you follow this video guide?

I think for the keyboard...I might have not been careful when I plugged it back in the first time.

The LCD cable, I'm not sure. I see a video feed that goes onto the laptop's lcd panel, but its super dim (there's no brightness, "backlight"). Does the LCD cable have anything to do with the inverter "stuff"?

However...I remember a few months back, the LCD backlight would sometimes not function after the system powered back on (from a stand-by, hibernation, or simply turning on the computer after a shut down). I never opened the system either...but the only way I got the backlight to work again was to take off and replace the battery and restart the computer.

I barely found HP's video system after all this.. :(
