vista?????????????????

hard drive issue. To confirm, just turn on the NB, quickly start tapping F11 to get into the BIOS then to to diagnostics and run the primary hdd test and then if it fails call HP up for a new hard drive

yes it is vista..
is there anyway to recover the files on the hard drive? -
You should probably leave the file recovery to HP.
-
If you lost the OS, I don't think there is a way to recover your data.

If the BIOS does not detect the drive, the drive is dead.

you can recover all the date in the HDD as long as the HDD is in good condition. Just install it in an external HDD casing then plug it to another compter. And there you're good to go., Done that many times already.
