    hi, a friend of mine have a hp dv6500 he said he turned on his notebook and it says operating system not found, so i tried to use the recovery cd that came with notebook but there was none they said to use f11 when restarting but that does not respond.does anyone have a recovery cd for this notebook or can help me to solve this issue. thanks

    hard drive issue. To confirm, just turn on the NB, quickly start tapping F11 to get into the BIOS then to to diagnostics and run the primary hdd test and then if it fails call HP up for a new hard drive

    You should probably leave the file recovery to HP.

    If you lost the OS, I don't think there is a way to recover your data.

    Actually, that's not true. There's a good chance it's just that the MBR is corrupted, and the rest of the hard drive is intact. It may definitely still be possible to recover the data. If the hard drive itself is messed up, even then it's possible.

    If the BIOS does not detect the drive, the drive is dead.

    you can recover all the date in the HDD as long as the HDD is in good condition. Just install it in an external HDD casing then plug it to another compter. And there you're good to go., Done that many times already.

    thanks everyone for your response, did a diagnostics on the drive and said to replace hard disk so he called hp and said they will replace it.but i am still trying to recover the files any other advice are welcome.thanks
