Hey all. So this didn't happen when I burned my recovery Dvds using HP Recovery Manager, but I went to burn the SWSetup folder to a Dvd and as I speak, the Dvd keeps revving up and then slowing down intermittently. What's up with that? Is this just wacky Vista doing it's thing again?
I could not find Dvd +R 8X disks, so I'm using 16X, but as far as I know that shouldn't matter. The Optical Drive should burn it at what it's capable of (which is 8X), right?
I'm using the same brand I used for creating the recovery disks - they're Dvd +R Memorex lightscribe Dvds. The only difference is that they say 16X. Any ideas? Thanks.
I also just noticed that the write speed is not consistent. It started burning at 1.81 MB/sec - now it's at 925 KB/sec ... ugh. Should I have used a program and not Vista to burn it?

The reason it cycles up and down is probably related to the buffer reading and then burning then reading then burning, as I recall mine did the same thing when I burned my recovery disks. I use those Memorex LS 16x DVD's all the time and have not had any problems with them. The drive will just burn a little slower than they are capable of but really that's a good thing since really fast burns can often lead to creating drink coasters for your coffee table. It took forever for the stupid recovery disks to burn for me (about 2 1/2 hours if I recall) so just be patient and wait till they are done.

might want to lookup my posts regarding your problem. i too had a similar problem that i had mine replaced.

The optical drive eventually just stopped altogether. Then I couldn't cancel the process. Then I tried task manager - no good. Finally, I had to do a hard reset. Ouch.
I tried again this time using the Cyberlink Dvd burner and it worked just fine and burned 3.52 Gb in 15 minutes. No revving or anything - steady and quick at 8X. It was probably just Windows explorer burning feature being stupid. I'm never going to try and burn data from explorer ever again. I still have no idea why that happened. I'll just blame Vista. -
Not just a problem with yours jong. This happened with the DV9500T I had in Dec., its replacement that got sent back for a different reason and now my DV9700. It took 5 hours to burn 150 MB through Windows. Used Cyberlink and it was done before I could time it.

Lol yeah never use the windows burning feature, ive had so many failed cd's with these. There alot of freeware programs that are better than that.

try ashampoo ver 6 , free and a good burning prog

Thanks for confirming guys. I don't know why after all the versions of Windows there have been, they can't get down a simple task like burning a Dvd. So strange.
