I just received a new DV6-6027tx with a Blu-Ray drive (BD-5740H). Whenever I open a music or video file, whether in Winamp or Windows Media Player, the drive makes a noise -- for about half a second -- like I have just inserted a disk. Also, a disk icon appears briefly next to the mouse pointer. The only way to stop this, it seems, is to disable the driver.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. Why does it do it though? I know it's a minor issue, but I don't understand the connection between playing an mp3 and the drive engaging in this way. Is it possible to edit the drive settings? I only ask because I haven't experienced this before.

Mine does it too. Just now, I heard a sound from the optical drive just clicking the winamp shortcut icon.lol. No big deal. Brush it off and move on. Also when I open ccleaner.

Is it when you start the player, or does it also do it when the player is already open and you open a new file from within the player. The former is normal, the latter is a little odd but not that cray-cray.

It only happens when first opening Winamp, whether that be loading a particular mp3 or the program itself.

However, I just tested Winamp Lite, Foobar2000 and Media Player Classic and found no noise whatsoever. Success!
