How often does this happen with HP? I tried ordered a dv4t tonight with PayPal, shipping to a different address than the billing address. I think this has worked before, but it's frustrating. Esp since that $200 off over $999 ends tomorrow and I can't call HP customer service until weekdays...
Any ideas?
Cheers

I tried doing this, they declined my order as well. Also my card only had a $900 credit limit and the laptop was like 1k.

i made an order, put it on a credit card that has like a $10k limit, just have a different shipping and billing address...took me like an entire week of being on the phone and being on hold for like an hour until it finally approved. they asked me extremely personal questions that i could barely remember the answer to. i *****ed them out but they just said "too bad for security reasons"
-
Yeah they called me asking bunches of questions as well. I ended up cancelling the order and just buying a different model from officemax

As for coupons maybe just wait a few weeks. HP usually has coupons every so often it seems.
The next one might be even better... -
HP do that a lot. I've had 4 decined orders, and 2 successful; last time lost patience and ordered from a store

Well obviously this is a security measure to ensure that you're not a thief or an identity stealer. Yes it is frustrating but it's a good thing what they are doing. If you know your card has a limit or you're going to ship to a different address other than what the billing address states, you have to expect a run around...at least in these times. This is why you should pick up the phone, call up the vendor and make the order over the phone to clear up all confusion one time...this will save alot of time. And BTW I don't think it's just HP implementing this type of security.

Harper2, the limit is above $2,000, I think. The laptop was customised up to $1,400 and then I had $300 off.
Cassiline Knight, the specs are below. The coupon was for $200 off, seems pretty good to me, esp since it was stackable with all the other discounts and coupons they currently have on the dv4t.
Makaveli72, yes it was a security measure. I got an email from my POA this morning saying my credit card company had actually called. And yes, it is a very good thing.
Probably 75% of the online orders I've made in the past 8 years have been to addresses other than my billing address and HP seems to care the most about it. Which is both good and bad.
And besides, I don't think they give all of the discounts over the phone, or do they?
I'll try again today and ask my POA to let it go through.

I had split the order between two credit cards, which HP's site accomodates with no hassle. I checked both accounts and they had an authorization (hold) for HP Home Store, so it obviously wasn't a payment issue! I became even more frustrated the next day (8/31) because the awesome 30% off coupon I used the day before had now expired!!!
I called the number in DECLINED email as soon as they opened on Tuesday morning. They had some "security" questions to ask me to confirm my ID? It was a little creepy because they asked me to confirm an address where I hadn't lived since 1994. They also asked "in what city does <insert my father's name> own property?"
After I had answered those questions to the representatives satisfaction, she transferred me over to Sales to discuss the order. I spoke with a very nice young lady named Kira who explained that she would have to re-submit the order, which she did while I was on the phone with her. I told her that I expected the coupon since it had been valid when I placed my original order. The way she had to accommodate this was to place the order at the current price and issue a "back-end credit" when the notebook ships.
The total on my original (DECLINED) order was $1189.20. The order she placed on my behalf had a total of $1,437.33. My dv7t shipped last Wednesday (9/10) and on Friday (9/12) the credit for the difference of $248.13 posted to my account!
Call them on Monday morning and see what you can work out with them. Insist on getting the discount that was valid at the time you placed your order. Hopefully, they'll treat you as decently as they did me.
Good luck. -
And apparently <my bank> didn't have my POA on record as my actual POA. Which is kind of funny since he sends all the checks to them.
I'll have them call in about... 8 hours. We'll see if it goes through.
Order Declined?
