I think ordering exactly what you want is better then buying from CC. If you play any games, I would try to go with the 8600m. I would just go with 2gigs of RAM and purchase more later. When I bought mine, I looked at CC, BB and HP and found I saved money by ordering from HP.

I perfer a CTO most the time. The CC pc has N wireless but it also has a shared video card but no bluetooth. It also has 3 gigs of ram but that is not a big deal.

I would get a CTO drop the ram to 1 gig and upgrade it to 4 on your own. Cost me 47 dollars after 20 dollars in rebates from newegg. Also consider adding wireless N.

The main issue with the CC laptop is the shared video. Stay away from that!

It depends on how badly you want a dedicated memory GPU. If you're not going to be gaming the dv9730 will work. It's not something you can upgrade later though and HP's shipping estimates tend to be overly pessimistic. Getting Bluetooth would be nice too.

I don't get it... If you are comparing apples to apples then the CC is actually a better deal with it being about $50 cheaper to build the same system from HP I believe.

Now If you are asking which one...Well the one that you are customizing is always going to be what you want. you are also going up a processor...(not necessarily noticeable)

So yeah if you feel like spending a couple hundred more right now get your custom. If you really feel like saving some money wait until a HP coupon comes out and then you can upgrade your custom laptop and it will cost you the price its gonna cost you now.

In other words...Yes get the laptop

Missed the Shared video part while looking at the linked page. Good point made by both robcope and phifer8390. The main issue with Video Card is that you are almost certain to be stuck with the same as long as you have the Notebook. RAM is upgardable. Video Card isn't!

Changing from AMD to C2D is surely is a logical step! :)
