The SE costs more then rival systems for the same (or inferior in some cases) specifications. You're paying extra for the silver casing. You have to decide if the extra money is worth that casing.
That said I LIKE the SE casing and was considering purchasing a 2700t SE myself but ultimately decided to stick with my old VAIO for the time being since I think I want to get an Eee PC.
I'd say you got a pretty good deal, though I would have liked to had the TV Tuner myself and would have paid extra for one. That $500 coupon was really a marvelous deal that was very close to a deal maker on the SE for me. -
Yes you got a great deal. you will love the design and overall performance of the special edition
You wouldnt happen to have order the Verve reversbile notebook sleeve? It should come with your order free of charge. I am after one of these and willing to pay $$ -
You got a pretty good deal. The specs are also solid
-
You wouldnt happen to have order the Verve reversbile notebook sleeve?
What is that? -
Is the sleeve a separate item you have to check off on the order form to get ? If so, I probably won't get one. I just figured that was automatically included. I guess I'll see in two weeks when it shows up.
-
Anybody out there have good/bad experiences with HP ? -
Never knew this Sleeve was such a big deal. I am starting to love it now! The mouse has always been cute.
As for you kmet999, don't worry. The fact is that you have a great laptop coming your way. I have a similar laptop that I got a week back. It is the dv2699en model. I am loving every bit of it. I know you will like it too! -
-
I had to pay twice that much over here in Australia $2,200 w/ extended warranty. Yours even have better specs.
You should be happy for that price! -
wow what a steal!! i got my computer dv2500 in nov and i feel like i got robbed compared to what ur getting! lucky u
-
Kmet, not a bad deal. HP is sending me the same model to replace a machine that was dead. All in all, the laptop I had from them was great aside from an annoying HDD click that could not ever be solved (until a BIOS update that I never got the time to see). The only complaints I have with them is that every time I sent the machine in, it came back even more broken. I finally complained enough to have them send me a brand new one that will end up being about $400 over what I paid a year ago. Customer service is good, products are good, tech support likes to destroy your machine!

-
Wow, what is this $500 coupon you speak of?
-
The $500 was a HP coupon for certain notebooks over $1399, but it was used up a few days ago.
I ordered the dv2700tse on Sunday and it's suppose to ship 12 days after I ordered it. I'm guessing that since it's made in china, production might be delayed due to chinese new year? -
Looks like you got a similar deal and delivery date. Mine is supposed to ship on 2/15 also. I've been a Dell/Sony user for so long, I hope this HP is as good, if not better than Dell and Sony.
-
I think you did not make a mistake at all. I ordered an HP DV6700t, came in a few days ago, and I could not be happier. I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 to compare it to, and, I like the Dell's keyboard 100% better then this one, to me to feels much better/tighter. Other then that, this HP has tons more features, fingerprint scanner, 3GB of memory, media buttons, remote control, etc. I love everything about it, and think you made a very wise choice.

I do miss the sweet Dell keyboard since I've been using the Sony SZ. Sony key shape and feel is just not that great. My wife has a Dell XPSM1210 and it has got to be the best keyboard I've ever used on a laptop despite being a 12" screen.

Hey OP, I did the same...couldn't resist the 500 off...too bad the coupon is now dead.
Well I'm typing this on my lap w/ OD's dv2718us w/ x2 tl62 2.1ghz, 3gb, and so on...
I'm so impressed w/ this one that I ordered the normal dv2700 and dv2700se maxed out almost everything to qual. for 500 off.
Good news is that the 14.1incher is "solid"..nuff said.
Bad news, the intake vent is only 1/4 of the fan, so at least for the tl62, the fan has not stopped since I got this last wkend...I searched and it's due to new bios HP rel. earlier this yr. -
oh, also, there's a slight click above the dvd drive, to the right of pg dn and pg up buttons...that is the body cover is not making a firm contact w/ dvd drive housing...other than that 1.5" area, the whole laptop is squeek (spelling?) free.
-
more about the fan, the good is that the temp hovers around 35-40C...not too shabby
-
oh yeah, I canx my two orders because I don't want the fan to stuck on "always on"....not sure if t9300 runs cooler than x2 tl62, though.
-
@ flipfire that is awfully costly! Why did you have to pay so much?
-
-
I didn't intend to depress you guys. But I find it strange that I got it from Saudi Arabia for a price similar to that in the United States. Might be that Saudi Arabia has no taxes on such items!
-
I just got my DV2700t yesterday.
Custom made,
t7500, 2gig ram, 128 nvidia, hd dvd player, etc...
It's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this little thing. It's like the perfect size. I did have a Dell 6000 inspiron. That thing was way too bulky. This thing is perfect! -
all in all, good laptop, and sexy as h*ll too
-
I've been reading about all the bloatware on the HP pc's. How much garbage am I actually going to be pulling off this thing? Dell has gotten somewhat better with the bloatware, but how bad is HP ?
-
The bloatware on my new hp is low. Just get rid of vongo, norton, and snapu or something like that. -
Well if you made a mistake, so did I. I ordered one of these on Friday:
DV2799 Verve Special edition
T9300 2.5Ghz 6MB L2 Cache
4GB 667 RAM
250GB 5400rpm HDD
8400GS 128mb
and all the other stuff it comes with! -
Here's a thread with a good list of bloatware to remove:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=132279
But as always, proceed with caution -
I think the dvX700 series is even more pain in the ass to downgrade to XP than was my dv2500t (which was no fun at all downgrading).
It's very hard for me saying that but... I would recommend you to stick with Windows Vista on that system.
You might run into some problems with your webcam though. I think if it arises, there is a workable solution. Search this forum for "pavilion webcam problem".
It is a great laptop otherwise.
Good luck! -
I just read the review for the dv2700t.

Looks like I'm gonna like this one. There are some interesting posts regarding the build quality too, which is my big concern along with performance. Looks don't hurt either!! -

Actually when I originally inquired about whether it came with the slipcase the guy said no (this is HP direct UK) he was extremely unhelpful and obviously didn't have a clue what he was talking about. But when I phoned back a few hours later to place my order I spoke to a really nice guy and he told me everything it comes with which includes the slipcase!
I'll make sure I tell you how the slipcase is when I recieve it, I mean who cares about the notebook -
Lol - I already know the laptop rocks!
Now I need an equally rock'in slipcase to match!
-
I've been looking for the right laptop since November last year after many dell failures i'm praying this is the right one! -
-
Can you please tell us about the fan noise? is it always on? is it noisy?
-
I use a similar configuration. I don't hear any Fan noise whatsoever. My old Dell Latitude made noise, actually it made lots of it!
-
There's really little to any noticeable fan noise. I hardly ever notice it on at all ... not that I could hear it over the fans on my PS3 and Desktop computer!!! It's quiet, especially on battery power. I recently checked the CPU temp using coretemp and on regular use (browsing the net, using MS Office, watching video), it didn't get hotter than 46 degrees Celsius and standing, both cores stay between 27 C and 34 C. However, keep in mind, I'm running an AMD Turion processor.
-
I've got a shortlist of laptops and the 2799 is on it. Are there any pics of the slipcase anywhere as well? Wouldn't mind seeing what the fuss is about. -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=216446 -
They said it's coming back into stock on the 29th Feb, so *fingers crossed* it will be here sometime in the first week of March.
Sorry to be of no help, although if the m1330 is on your shortlist I can help you with that since a family member recently bought one and i'm using it until mine gets here. -
The M1330 is on my shortlist. It's basically the DV2799, M1330 and SZ61MN/B. I played with the SZ yesterday and the keyboard was pretty bad so it's basically between HP and Dell. HP has the lead at the moment because of value for money. You can't spec an equivalent M1330 1k (well, can't compare because Dell UK have no Penryn machines).
It's a shame I can't see both in the flesh, I'm going to pop to PC World today to see if they have the HP.
Edit, one thing I noticed when looking at the dv2799 on the HP site is that theres no mention of the TV Tuner on that model. I take it it doesn't have one? Doesn't mention what cell battery it has by default either. -
They actually had the dv2799 in PC World, £1199; nice little markup! Laptop is lovely, the Verve finish is extremely nice. Tested out the keyboard for 5 minutes or so, had to usher away the nagging sales clerks. Build quality was very good, lifted it up by the corners with almost zero strain or flex. The hinge was quite stiff, I don't know if you could open it one handed, it tended to lift the entire laptop up.
They also had a Dell section, had the M1530 (no M1330) and I don't know whether it was an old display model or what but it looked pretty bad. The aluminium palm rest wasn't looking too hot, there was flex everywhere and the HP build quality just seemed to be in a different league.
I think it's pretty clear I've found my laptop. -
After you do a clean install to rid of bloatware and abit of tweaking.. its perfect. -
Anyway lifting it up with one hand from a corner was easy enough and it looked great.
Ordered DV2700tse - Mistake ?
