I finally got around to ordering a notebook for my son. Thanks to everyone on this forum! Lot's of great info. Here's what I got:

Compaq Presario V3000T customizable Notebook PC - $830.34
    • Genuine Windows XP Home Edition
    • Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2050 (1.60 GHz)
    • 14.1" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    • Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    • IMPRINT Finish + Microphone + QuickPlay
    • 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (2x256MB)
    • FREE Upgrade to 60 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive!!
    • DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
    • Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    • 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • Microsoft(R) Works/Money
    • Genuine Windows XP Home Edition Backup CD
    • HP Mobile Remote Control
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Computrace LoJack for Laptops, Three Years - $84.99

3-year HP Accidental Damage Protection with Express Repair Extended Service Plan for HP Pavilion and Presario Notebook PCs - $332.49

    CA Tax - $70.94, Recycling fee - $6.00

    $100.00 PC mail-in rebate, $30 LoJack rebate, 3 yr.

    Total price after rebates: $1,194.76

I also picked up two sticks of the following from NewEgg:

    Patriot 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory - $175.63 for two sticks after $7.00 MIR

I realize that the FSB is only 533 for the T2050. I'm banking on being able to upgrade to a Core2 someday. I'll wait a few years until they're cheap and then breathe new life into this laptop. (hopefully)

    Thanks again!

I'm also going to wait a few years when the Core2 price drops.

Hopefully by then they'll have Imprint + Black interior instead of just the silver inside.
